On the individual level, getting a college degree may or may not be worthwhile for some marginal students, because the job market is so credentialized. Many FR threads have debated who should attend college. But at a national level, sending everyone to college will NOT magically create lots of good new jobs unless it substantially improves the knowledge and skills of the workforce.
Better to stand in the unemployment line with sheepskin in hand, than without. /s
And they all can get a job in government after the private sector is no more.
I sense a lowering of standards on the horizon.
Why not improve the literacy rates, then high school graduation rates first?
Even if that could happen, there won’t be any jobs for them with Obamas policies. We’ll just have the worlds smartest unemployed people.
If zero and his minions could get 60% of the los negroes to graduate from high school it would be a near miracle! That’s the first hill that the boy needs to climb....
Years ago I made the comment that not everyone is suited for college. I happened to make it at a wedding or baby shower amongst a bunch of leftists (divorced/single middle aged women) and you should have seen the looks and heard the gasps of disbelief. BLASPHEMY!
only happens when the immigrants are legal and high functioning, and the children of the low end of the normal curve are kept as a small portion of the populations
Our Elite do not see this as being in their interests.
He truly is trying to destroy America and or he is an idiot.
He just gets a thought.... i e.... everyone should wear gold watches go to college and so on...
How about JOBS TO HELP PAY MORTGAGES?
NOT the green weenie jobs reserved for your buds real jobs!
NEXT he will say everyone has to change all of their lightbulbs to energy efficient ones WAIT HE DID THAT!
Hand out the diploomas with the cheese. Honkey crackers need not apply.
Obama..."You don't want health insurance? Too bad, we REQUIRE you to buy it. Don't want a college degree? Too bad, we REQUIRE you go get one."
1- Change the curricula to prepare the students for productive work and quit catering to the lowest common denominator.
2- Reintroduce the concept of discipline and consequences, to ensure a learning atmosphere in the classroom.
3- Allow school choice so the market place can identify where these concepts have been effectively implemented.
4- Tell the Teacher’s Unions to shut up and make these changes with the money they have. The consequences include firing the least qualified teachers.
Oh, great idea - then even McDonalds will require a collage degree to flip burgers!
As is, there are far too many people going to college. Perhaps it would be worthwhile for more to go if college taught them anything. But those coming out with a bachelor’s degree who can’t write or perform simple math should be driving truck or picking up garbage.
The only reason Progressive Fascists want everyone to go to college is they need more time to try and brain wash the kids to believe their ridiculous Progressive political dogmas
Education is a great thing, but before pushing college, how about making sure that people get out of high school? The national high school graduation rate is around 68-69%, and is significantly worse in many cities.
The average public school high school graduation rate in the 50 largest cities in the nation is ~53%. In Detroit that number is ~25%, and in New York it is ~54%.
To address the high school problem, however, requires liberals to 1) be honest about social issues and the root causes of unequal outcomes, and 2) to be willing to fight the teacher’s unions.
I’m not impressed.
College graduation rates would improve greatly if we banned the NCAA.
