WaPo: Jobs report puts a damper on Obama's effort to keep the message positive (BARF!)
Washington Post ^ | August 6, 2010 | Scott Wilson

President Obama spent much of the week harvesting bits of good news from some of his short- and longer-term initiatives.

In Chicago, he showcased the revived U.S. auto industry that he bailed out last year.

And here in Washington his senior advisers highlighted a federal report showing that most of the oil in the Gulf of Mexico is gone, suggesting a less-grave scenario than had been predicted. White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs called that "good news" and said the federal response to the spill had played an important part in containing the potential damage.

Obama even dropped in on a briefing for journalists to say that new sanctions on Iran appear to be exerting new pressure on the government there.

Then came the jobs report, the monthly reminder that one number above all others matters most to the country and the Democratic Party's political future. That would be the unemployment rate, still stuck at 9.5 percent.

Actually over 10 percent, just because this government refuses to count those who are out of work does not mean I have to accept the "still stuck at" anymore than I have to accept approval numbers "hanging in there at above 40%".

I fail to see how sitting on their fat arses and being obstructionist bureaucrats helped in containing the damage.

the revived U.S. auto industry that he bailed out last year.

That HE bailed out ???

Ha!

When called on his socialist tendencies, he tends to proclaim that BUSH started the auto bailout.

Now, it's HIS doing ?

what? Another “unexpected”, “surprisingly poor” report on the economy.

I hate to tell people that until there is a change in under laying political/economic theory there will be more “unexpected”, “surprisingly poor” reports on the economy. Any improvements will be the temporary reflection of the current bandage instead of a case of major surgery (change of direction).

They are doing everything they can including changing the way unemployment is measured to keep that figure under 10%. It is like charging 99 cents for an item rather than 1.00.
