BP's blown-out oil well in the Gulf of Mexico has reached a "static condition," the company said early Wednesday, meaning that pressure inside the well has been brought under control through a mud-pumping process that began Tuesday afternoon.
BP called the achievement "a significant milestone" and said it stopped pumping mud into the Macondo well after about eight hours because the effort had been successful.
"The well is now being monitored, per the agreed procedure, to ensure it remains static," the company said in a statement. "Further pumping of mud may or may not be required depending on results observed during monitoring."
In a speech in Washington, President Obama called the development "very welcome news" but pledged that efforts to recover from the worst oil spill in the nation's history would continue.
He also welcomed a report released Wednesday by government scientists, saying it shows that "the vast majority of the spilled oil has been dispersed or removed from the water." He told a meeting of the AFL-CIO Executive Council, "The long battle to stop the leak and contain the oil is finally close to coming to an end, and we are very pleased with that."

Finally!
But not done just yet,...they will still be out there into September....
That extra casing and cement work BP passed on because it was too expensive is looking pretty cheap now, isn’t it BP?
I was viewing one site where after a spill, they were hosing the oil in what looked like wetlands. Also the storms HELP break up the oil so that little storm was just a little more of mother nature at work. Always amazed!!!
It has been over $3.00 forever out here....SoCal.
Premium is around $3.30 at the Major name stations.
Well, on crisis under control, time for Bozo and the boys to find a new one to try to terrify people with so he can tax the sh** out of us.
Yeah, about the lowest you can find it in northern CA is 3.03 and most of the stations in my area are at 3.13.
I suppose the silver lining to the cloud of Obama possibily beating the Arizona law is that it should also make California’s emission standards invalid. Yeah, right.
Ugh!
I thought that the spill was supposed to be at least 10 billion times worse than we could ever imagine!
Sometimes nature does a good job when humans mess things up.
God planned everything so that it takes care of itself.
Obama sure is doing a good job in getting the flow stopped, huh? Like uh, sure, right, notice he has not been back down here, not that we miss him, not like he did any good other than spending a lot of money on nothing, he has done nothing.
U.S. Says 74 Percent of BP Oil Gone From Gulf Waters
it's a Bloomberg /Businessweek article.
Perhaps we can get those drilling rigs back from $oro$ and get back to drilling our own oil.
Pray for America
The leak is not slowing and holding steady with a slight increase. Also note that leaking product is rising. Should not drilling mud be falling to the ground ? The BOP is still leaking oil. How is that possible ?
FYI - Looks like the new BOP seal leak in the top area has stopped leaking.
FYI - Also looks like the leak in the 3 Ram Stack seal has stopped. Wonder if they sent the Cement Kill Pill down ? Or perhaps they stopped the pressure from the Mud Ship and let the mud get pushed up by the oil.
