Rep. Charlie Rangel argues a House ethics panel violated his Constitutional due process rights in a 32-page submission to the committee.
Rangel said the investigative subcommittee that brought charges against him did not give him enough time to provide a defense, violating the Fifth Amendments due process clause.
The veteran lawmaker said he was prevented from answering the committees charges in a point-by-point repudiation of the allegations brought against him.
For forty years, Congressman Rangel has faithfully served the people of New Yorks Fifteenth District, Rangel said in the statement.
He has at all times acted in his constituents best interests and has brought them economic and educational opportunities, as exemplified by his tireless support for the City College of New York (CCNY)."
Rangel donated his official papers to CCNY, secured appropriations to support the colleges academic program in public service, and promoted the program to education-minded philanthropists, according to the statement.
The only benefit Rangel received from this work, the statement said, was the satisfaction of fulfilling his obligations to his constituents. He did not profit economically, nor did he ever link his work for CCNY with matters before the Ways & Means Committee.
The statement also described the SAV as deeply flawed in its factual premises and legal theories.
The undisputed evidence in the record
is that Congressman Rangel did not dispense any political favors, that he did not intentionally violate any law, rule or regulation, and that he did not misuse his public office for private gain.
The corrupt left rips apart the Constitution unless they owe money, then they CRY it is Unconstitutional!!
Rangel you ‘tard. You’re going to trial.
You’re going to get all the due process you can eat.
_______
Sorta of like shoving a bill down our throats and not giving anyone time to read it?
Well how did he become rich?????? They all have to go...
I’m INNOCENT!
ROFLMAO! You can’t make this stuff up! It is now a “Constitutional Right” to commit blatant fraud and theft! Well, I guess it worked in the case against Arizona...
Satan quoted scripture, too.
Race card to be played next ...
Yawn /
Sorry Charlie

"I'm sorry, Congressman Rangel, your race card has been declined."
Past glory does not excuse present sin....
Gee I guess two years is not enough time for this crook to get all his lies to jive together!
TERM LIMITS NOW is the answer to a lot of this crap. Two 4 year terms for reps and two 6 year terms for senators.
This would automatically get rid of crime-oriented career politicians before more damage control is necessary.
Reminds me of a picture of Clinton leaving church clutching his ten pound bible in the hand closest to the camera. This was a favorite gimmick every time he was caught up in yet another scandal involving a female i.e., Paula Jones, et al.
I'd put "ROMANIAN" in front of that.
Under due process, doesn’t one normally present their defense at the trial? Absent formal charges, how would Lyin’ Charlie know what he needed to defend?
