Juarez- The U.S. embassy announced that it will closes it's consulate in Juarez. In a statement, the embassy said the consulate will, " remain closed until a security review is completed."
They did say they will reschedule appointments for those with visa applications pending.
The embassy did not say what prompted the review and a spokesman declined any further comment beyond the statement.
The U.S. State Department has taken several measures over the past few months to protect employees of the consulate and their families from the deadly violence in Juarez
The close comes after the March shooting death of a U.S. consulate employee and her family. Lesley and Arthur Redelfs along with their child and a man with ties to the consulate were gunned down by a drug gang as they left a childrens' party in Juarez.
The closing of the Juarez consulate is the most drastic security measure yet. It's the only consulate in Mexico where people applying for U.S. residency can go.
We will follow this story all morning and bring you any details that become available.
One of the biggest problems is that we are not being realistic about the violence in Mexico. It is indeed being perpetrated by drug gangs, but they are traditionally the funding sources and sometimes even advance attack squadrons for Latin American Marxist guerrillas such as FARC. We all know, of course, that Chavez is a great supporter of FARC, and that the drugs trafficked by these gangs (other than meth and pot) are brought up from other parts of South America that produce the raw materials and are transhipped through Venezuela and Cuba.
The “drug gangs” are essentially the first wave of the radical Marxists that are seeking to take over all of Latin America, and we refuse to see this for what it is. But maybe that’s because Obama doesn’t really object to the idea.
This is going to be a BIG problem for friends of mine that live in Juarez and sell at county and state fairs up here in the states. Twice a year the go to the consulate to get the proper paperwork and visas to legally come into the US and ply their trade. They are the greatest bunch of guys and we often talk of the violence in Juarez. They fear for their families down there when they are gone. Things are very bad they tell me.
They all speak english as well as anyone up here, but are Mexican Nationals through and through. The owner has business and buildings in El Paso. This closing will put a real crimp on their ability to enter the US legally.

The Federal Government aka Obama, when asked if the border is safe, acts like an eight year old kid who puts his hands over his ears and says ... nananananananananananananananan.
The reason it’s closed is because MEXICO is NOT safe!!! But the Ohaha admin sees no problem with letting those same dangers cross the border any time they want!
I have heard that the city council members and mayor of Juarez all live in El Paso. Anyone know if this is true?
Why bother with a visa....... just walk across the border and all will be ok

If it is; then it should be a great 'truth' message for Arizona and of course,for Texas. . . which I hope adopts same law as Arizona. There is strenth in numbers; something, clearly, our enemies understand quite well.
(A mass filing of 'States' would be impressive and damning per Obama's Federal MO of 'see/hear/speak no evil' - when shared in English, anyway. . .)

The U.S. Consulate General in Ciudad Juarez is closed on July 30, 2010 to review its security posture. American citizens are advised avoid the area around the Consulate General until it reopens. Authorities are investigating the situation.
The Consulate General has cancelled all scheduled appointments and services for Friday, July 30. As soon as we can reopen we will inform the public by a warden notice and posting on our web page.
American citizens with appointments for passport or other services may make a new appointment via the Consulate website below. For non-immigrant visa applicants, our call center will call or e-mail applicants to reschedule appointments. Alternatively, applicants may re-schedule non-immigrant visa appointments without being charged by calling 01-800-719-2525. Immigrant visa applicants should be advised that the medical clinics where they will receive their medical exams may also close on short notice. Immigrant visa applicants will be rescheduled for their interviews at a later date.
