As of 10:00 p.m. EDT, hours after Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack fired Shirley Sherrod for racism in her official duties after being exposed by BigGovernment.com there is a near total blackout by the mainstream news media on the scandal.
Sherrod was appointed a year ago by Vilsack to be the Georgia director of Rural Development where she doled out millions of dollars in federal funds.
Just days before her appointment, the Obama Justice Department settled a lawsuit by Sherrod and her husband claiming discrimination against their farm cooperative for a reported $13 million.
A search of Google News and Google Blogs shows nothing form the Associated Press or Reuters. Nothing from Politico or The Hill. Nothing from The New York Times, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times. Nothing from MSNBC or CNN. Nothing from ABC or NBC. CBS gets partial credit for running a story earlier about Sherrod's racist remarks but has failed to follow up with the story of her firing.
Credit goes to Fox News for reporting the story and updating it with news of Sherrod's termination:
The Agriculture Department announced Monday, shortly after FoxNews.com published its initial report on the video, that Sherrod had resigned.
"There is zero tolerance for discrimination at USDA, and I strongly condemn any act of discrimination against any person," Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack said in a written statement. "We have been working hard through the past 18 months to reverse the checkered civil rights history at the department and take the issue of fairness and equality very seriously."
Sherrod was videotaped at an NAACP dinner in March of this year speaking about an incident where she discriminated against a white farmer while acting in her offical capacity because she is black and is prejudiced against white farmers.
Big Government broke the story with video to back it up around mid-day. The failure of the mainstream media to touch this story even after Sherrod was forced to resign and was publicly rebuked by an Obama cabinet secretary is a shameful example of the censorious nature of the liberal mainstream media.
stopped using google here too, no more google earth, no google search no google anything.
Yeah...I’ve noticed that. IMO...they’re pandering to us conservatives in order to try and improve sales.
On the other hand...the mosque arson in Marietta was front page news...until it was discovered the arsonist was a muslim.
Too late.
Too bad CNN's healthy skepticism only applies to stories that might hurt their "teachers pets"... Then again, if CNN was fair, they would be more popular - and that would hurt our cause.
Guess we should be pleased they shoot themselves in the foot -- repeatedly
This link is to a 10 second spot of what she said - and the rest is giving this woman a chance to defend herself. I’ve never seen CNN do that when a “right winger” is accused - of anything.
We should chase that story down. Someone in one of the threads on this claims to have insider information on that payout, and said it was pretty much straight up a reparations payment.
Those who promote the ridiculous claim that blacks can’t be racists because they don’t have power over white people will rush to recant their views after hearing that this women denied people of a different color, help. </ sarcasm>
I never get tired of seeing those two pictures.
The NAACP kind of stepped in it when they went after the tea party. Now, their dirty laundry is being exposed.
I hope there is a lot more and it lands on them soon!
Check out this story today on Drudge:
I’m not going to hold my breath but it is encouraging.
Stories like this really tick off people that don’t pay attention to politics. The ‘American Idol’ crowd is slowly waking up and are not liking what they’re seeing.
Good post, best fight against MSM media blackouts is sunlight in all other sources.
” suggest people go here: http://suggestions.yahoo.com/?prop=news
and ask why this story isnt being covered.
If others can find similar places to ask the question, that would be helpful.”
FYI: that link asks only for questions about TECHNICAl issues of accessing news stories but I sent a comment anyway.
Took some digging but I finally found a place on Google to comment about this censorship. I remembered seeing it on a prior thread on FR about them blocking stories about the Climategate emails.

Same with student loans
The liberal spin now is that it happened 24 years ago and shes since changed:
Reverse discrimination is rampant at the USDA, that is why the primarily white institutional knowledge base is leaving in droves.
The scary part also is she was so comfortable talking about this to a group of people - she must think share the same philosophy.
Its like they are still living in the '60's.
Is anybody really surprised that the Pravda-Al Jazeera coalition of the state-run media is failing to cover this story. ABCNNBCBS have less credibility than the Star, Globe, and National Enquirer. Apologies to MSNBC for excluding them but they have about as many viewers as the Al Gore channel - Current TV.
As for the newspapers/newsmagazines - they are 90%+ unapologetic flaming leftist prostitutes. It will be rewarding when they go to the trashheap.
Rush just opened with this scary thought...Soon we will be going through a bureaucrat like Sherrod to get our health care. That should be a comparison that even the dumbest liberal would understand.

No, silly
unobtanium

Only WHITES can be racist! /s
