America's Ruling Class -- And the Perils of Revolution
American Spectator ^ | Angelo M. Codevilla

Posted on 07/16/2010 4:35:54 AM PDT by rellimpank

As over-leveraged investment houses began to fail in September 2008, the leaders of the Republican and Democratic parties, of major corporations, and opinion leaders stretching from the National Review magazine (and the Wall Street Journal) on the right to the Nation magazine on the left, agreed that spending some $700 billion to buy the investors' "toxic assets" was the only alternative to the U.S. economy's "systemic collapse." In this, President George W. Bush and his would-be Republican successor John McCain agreed with the Democratic candidate, Barack Obama. Many, if not most, people around them also agreed upon the eventual commitment of some 10 trillion nonexistent dollars in ways unprecedented in America. They explained neither the difference between the assets' nominal and real values, nor precisely why letting the market find the latter would collapse America. The public objected immediately, by margins of three or four to one.

When this majority discovered that virtually no one in a position of power in either party or with a national voice would take their objections seriously, that decisions about their money were being made in bipartisan backroom deals with interested parties, and that the laws on these matters were being voted by people who had not read them, the term "political class" came into use. Then, after those in power changed their plans from buying toxic assets to buying up equity in banks and major industries but refused to explain why, when they reasserted their right to decide ad hoc on these and so many other matters, supposing them to be beyond the general public's understanding, the American people started referring to those in and around government as the "ruling class."

Life is a wheel, and it revolves. And you’re either driving the revolution of that wheel, or getting crushed under the weight of it.

Sort of like a Gatling Gun?

The PROPER way is to make tyranny so expensive in terms of the lives of tyrants that no one will ever want to do it again. That means using the guillotine or the gallows liberally.

Okay, but not exclusively, if you please.

During the Finnish Civil War of 1918, the Finns loyal to their own nation and people found that one use for captured Red prisoners was for use as bayonet practice targets for young and inexperienced troops who needed an introduction to the realities of their new profession and way of life.

Our great Nation is rapidly approaching a similar state of tyranny as was present in the 1770’s...high taxation, poor to no representation, an aristocratic rulling class, a government that does not care a wit for the commoners, the people of the colonies.

I’ll wager this Nation’s Founders are spinning in their graves wondering how long before we begin plucking the chickens and heating the tar.

This was a great article and well defines the entire “ruling class”.

The grounds may be fertile and ripe for action...

But there are people on both sides of this issue that do not believe anyone has the guts to do it...

That mentality is even more dangerous...

The article is far too wordy

No it's not. We're just used to the pundit's 3 to 5 paragraph outrage of the day articles.

This one clarifies and gives useful names to the forces and divisions that we here need to process. And then figure out how to tear apart their God forsaken tyranny. No more defense.

Those that saw themselves as free-born Americans with a God-given right to liberty - and those that saw themselves as subjects of something else

Same as today .... thank God for the III percenters.

I feel the the WWII heroes (”The Greatest Generation”) came home and spoiled their kids rottenly to be the sixties brats and hippies (the Baby-Boomers) and are now ruling the “Media”(?) and our educational system leading the way for taking our nation down the RAT hole to Marxism!!!
