PPP: Obama, Palin tied 46/46 in 2012 polling
Hot Air ^ | July 15, 2010 | Ed Morrissey

No, this is not coming from Rasmussen or an internal GOP poll, but from the normally Democrat-sympathetic Public Policy Polling...

With his approval numbers hitting new lows it’s no surprise that Barack Obama’s numbers in our monthly look ahead to the 2012 Presidential race are their worst ever this month. He trails Mitt Romney 46-43, Mike Huckabee 47-45, Newt Gingrich 46-45, and is even tied with Sarah Palin at 46. The only person tested he leads is Jan Brewer, who doesn’t have particularly high name recognition on the national level at this point.

It’s not that any of the Republican candidates are particularly well liked. Only Huckabee has positive favorability numbers at 37/28. Romney’s at 32/33, Gingrich at 32/42, Palin at 37/52, and Brewer at 17/20. But with a majority of Americans now disapproving of Obama it’s no surprise that a large chunk of them would replace him as President if they had that choice today.

There are two things driving these strong poll numbers for the Republican candidates. The first is a lead with independents in every match up. Romney leads 48-35 with them, Gingrich is up 50-39, Huckabee has a 46-40 advantage, Palin’s up 47-42, and even Brewer has a 38-37 edge.

Palin = Rockstar

Everyone knows this. She fills stadiums (OK large auditoriums) in battleground states, like Colorado. No other Republican can do this.

Her commentary is as decisive as any commentator on the right. She is quoted prominently by the MSM, partly because because of content, the other part because of beauty, the other part because of a women reaching for the top. This all makes for good ratings. 46-46 LOL, just wait.

See #59

If Newt is in the race to prove his cred, so he can become consigliari, then during his tenure in the race, he’s going to bleed off support from a real conservative, and again the race will be dumped in the lap of a rino pseudo-conservative.

How bout John Thune?
If John Thune was running and was a sure thing against 0bama, I'd be more than happy to support him.
Though personally, I think his best fit would be Senate Majority Leader. He's a solid conservative, and is very charasmatic, which is what the GOP desperately needs. Right now they've got two stiffs as the public face. If Mike Pence and John Thune were the leaders, we wouldn't be talking about IF the Republicans can capture the House, but WHAT they will do next year WHEN they control both chambers.

I honestly don’t think Sarah can win the nomination. Granted most Republicans like her but I don’t think those feelings will translate into enough votes to take the nomination.

Gingrich polls at 50% against 0bama.
That makes him the surest bet to throw 0bama out of office.
Even if 0bama captures 99% of the undecideds, Gingrich still wins.

The same cannot be said about any other candidate, Palin least of all.

Re #78:

That’s a little cold phrasing there. She’s an awfully nice lady and I have never in my life seen any politician on either side more brutally attacked. I agree with you on her chances in the primary but still like her on a personal level.

Do you remember the way the democrats and their media attacked President Bush? 24/7 for each minutes of each hours. Do you think that Palin has been more attacked than President Bush? Get real.

Palin is the only one courageous enough to accuse Obama of what he is really doing, applying the theories of Marx by means of the methods of Alinsky and the Chicago mob, and she will do it in terms that the average person can understand and know to be true.
Palin takes her cues from Gingrich.
"Applying the theories of Marx" is not a phrase that would come out of her mouth unless she was coached.
And then it would be questionable if she knew what that meant.

I am personally of the opinion that after 8 years of Bush and 4 years of 0bama and Biden, this next time we should try not to elect the dumbest person in the room.

There's an article posted today about Gingrich sucking up to the NAACP, he has simply sucked up over and over again trying to be adored by liberals and the MSM for too long.

Romney has done nothing at all, and will never overcome Romney Care.

It's amazing how many times that "joke" has had to be mentioned by Obama and his minions by name. That they have to do that is telling. She's undercut them better and more effectively than all the rest combined, and they surely don't see her as a joke any longer.

That you willingly put up the DNC/MSM party line talking points against her is more than slightly interesting.

Palin = Joke.

She is super popular among her fans but her fans are barely 20% of the electorate.

” Palin is a joke that has been exposed long time ago. Obama and his socialists wish with all their hearts that she will be the Republican nominee in 2012 “

Prissy Crissy Matthews already came out and touted Palin. There you are.

Palin = Rockstar
First of all, Palin = Country Music Star...
And why are you using the same line that was used to sell 0bama?
Do we want another "Rockstar" president?
Rockstars tend not to be very good with money.. they usually end up bankrupt.
And 0bama is no exception.
We really want to repeat this with Palin?

Your Plain joke is just a talker and bomb thrower like Obama. She comments on everyhting under the sun so her cult on the Internet would fawn over her the way they do here on FR. She is a joke who is starved for attention like Obama. The left mentions her because they know of her high negativity among the majority of the electorate and they think that by some chance if they attack her she may get more sympathy among Republican voters to nominate her for 2012 which is that is what they want so badly. Fortunately this not going to happen.

Regarding Romeny, I agree that it is extremely impossible if not difficult for him to overcome Romenycare.

"If Newt is in the race to prove his cred, so he can become consigliari, then during his tenure in the race, he’s going to bleed off support from a real conservative, and again the race will be dumped in the lap of a rino pseudo-conservative."

He's in it for redemption and to advance his second Contract. Which is ok whatever but does have the potential to evolve as you suggest.

However, if there are agreements in place well beforehand, and if he is genuinely willing to become Henry Higgins to Palin's Eliza, Newt can tap into Palin's incipient Thatcherite qualities while gracefully getting around Greta and Sarah's other 'advisors', and she will be unstoppable.

Palin has been successful by knowing what advice to use and what advice to discard, but the immediacy of debate is her Achilles Heel. However, do you know how many people didn't see -- and have never seen -- the Couric interview? I am among them! I do not view Palin through that narrow prism.

Really, it doesn't have be Newt ... if there's a great Conservative factotum who could start working with her right now...

Yes I do think Palin was attacked more viciously than Bush. Granted Bush was in office for eight years but the media pretty much left his family alone and went after Bush only on policy and verbal gaffes. Just one example since you have a short memory (and are as obnoxious as you've always been) I'll remind you that they tried to claim Sarah was secretly the mother of Tripp, this wasn't just in the Weekly World News, it was covered as virtual fact by the MSM.

Reading all the comments it appears that once again it’s a case of:

“My guy - or Nobody!!”...as in Assure obama gets re-elected for 4 more years....

Give me a break all you believers of the liberal mainstream media.

This is a liberal poll.Of course liberals would make Romney or Huckabee the socialist look good while making Palin look bad. This is an attempt by liberals to pick our Republican nominee again like they and their media did with McCain.

Of course liberals/marxists and their liberal pollsters want Romney or Huckabee. Liberals don't want Palin because they are scared of her and KNOW that Palin is the only one of those that would be able to derail Liberals’ big government socialist agenda.
