"Where would Jesus drill?"
That sounds almost like it could be the opening of a tree hugger's bad joke, but instead it's the lede in a recent Associated Press story written by John Flesher about a so-called "Green religion movement."
Efforts to make environmentalism its own sort of religion have been underway for some time now. But the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico has sparked a new push to take what has been traditionally a political phenomenon, the American environmentalist movement, and make it part of the religious spectrum.

The whole What would Jesus do thing has always bothered me and I realized why -— it assumes only an historical Jesus who has been dead for two thousand years. The tense is wrong. My God is always in the present.
Green technology may be the wave of the future at some point but it is untenable and unsustainable at the present time.
The technology and products developed using this technology are way too expensive to make the technology viable at the present time.
Oil, gas and coal therefore will be needed for much longer time and what we really need to do is start going a lot more nuclear and to develop recycling for nuclear waste.
The easiest way to controll your churches is if you disagree with them, withhold your donations. I was always taught that if I was going to donate to my church, first....I need to find out where the money was going to be used and second.....make sure it was used for the purpose I agree with.
The eco-religion.
Mankind is supposed to be good stewards of the earth, but it does not mean we are supposed to fall down and worship it and grovel at its feet either
Or the way of the past. Like sailing ships and whale oil. Obama is like Ahab chasing after Moby Dick.
Yeah, the Huffingtonopolis Post is all over this. They are promoting Gaia worship
I disagree with that blanket approach.
Here is why:
Mark 12:41-44 - And Jesus sitting over against the treasury, beheld how the people cast money into the treasury. And many that were rich cast in much. And there came a certain poor widow: and she cast in two mites, which make a farthing. And calling his disciples together, he says to them: Amen I say to you, this poor widow has cast in more than all they who have cast into the treasury. For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want cast in all she had, even her whole living.
Now Jesus knew that all of that money that was going into the treasury was not all spent wisely and some was most likely squandered and misused yet he did not advocate the woman withholding her donation.
Now I'm not advocating giving to the CCHD or some other totally left-wing anti-Church organization. It is just that my Church and my Parish deserve much in the ways of donations with all of the good that they do that is commanded by the Lord.
I don't want to setup an excuse not to sacrifice based on a small questionable slice of the pie being funded. What is better is to identify the offending slice to the Parish, Bishop, whomever and withhold my money for that particular offending slice.
"Environmentalism is instinctively and relentlessly illiberal, and it is doing more to inculcate people with fear, self-loathing and a religious-style sense of meekness than any piece of anti-terror legislation ever could. If you believe in freedom, you must reject it."

“withhold my money for that particular offending slice.” You are saying the same as I. The only problem you may run into is if the money goes into a general fund. You won’t know where the money is going. I was part of a parish that went on a large fund raising project to build a new parish center. There were those that wanted the raised money to go into a general fund. We told them that if this happened, we would not ask for the donations from the parish and building would not be built. We had to know where every penny was spent. Not to much to ask from any church.
The same is being done on and with illegal immigration.....the same is being done with varying socialist social platforms.....etc., etc.
Beck pinned-the-tail-on-the-donkey progressives concerning their use of religion to pass their agendas.
“Where would Jesus drill?”
Anywhere he pleased....oil is used for fuel which runs tractors which harvest food that feeds the poor.
And carbon credits are like indulgences.
‘What would Jesus do thing has always bothered me and I realized why - it assumes only an historical Jesus who has been dead for two thousand years. The tense is wrong. My God is always in the present.’
Would is present tense.
Horsehockey.
I donate to prolife organisations that I trust to spend the funds in a responsible manner.
When parishes fund Catholics for a free choice, why would I donate to the collection?
How would Mohammed vote?
They should drill a hole in their own heads to let the stupid flow out.
