If the election for governor of California were held today, Republican Meg Whitman would edge out Democrat Jerry Brown 46% to 39%, according to a new CBS 5 KPIX-TV poll of likely voters released Monday.
Brown, currently California's Attorney General, leads by a not surprising 2-1 margin in the Bay Area, but trails in the rest of the state, according to the poll data.
The poll found Whitman, former CEO of eBay, has leads built up among men and affluent voters. She gets 77% of Republican voters, while Brown gets the support of 64% of Democrats. Independents break by a 5-4 margin for Whitman.
In the race for U.S. Senator from California, Democratic incumbent Barbara Boxer and Republican Carly Fiorina are effectively even, the poll found.
Fiorina got 47% voter support compared to Boxer's 45%, which is within the poll's four percentage point margin of error.
The poll found twice as many Democrats cross-over to vote Republican as Republicans who cross-over to vote Democrat in the senate race.

Great Idea.
LetS help Radical Jerry Brown and Boxer win !!
YUu are way too smart for us.
Thanks to you briLlant ideaS we have a Marxist in the White House !
Never againm will I let you Loons or DU TrollS peddle this craP AGAIN.!
What is KPIX?
Is that like the Lotto "Quick Picks"?
My guess is that a random number generator would have as much accuracy.
You mean like when Meg Whitman donated thousands of dollars to Barbara Boxer's re-election campaign?
"We need Senator Boxer to keep fighting for policies that promote the growth of technology and the new economy." --Meg Whitman
Ain't this "new economy" great?
“New” economy. “New” California.
What’s with all this “new” crap?
How about just restoring sanity?
The irony here is that Brown is actually a supporter of the 2nd Amendment. At least he recognizes it as an individual right. This means Whitman doesn’t have to move very far if at all to differentiate herself, and ultimately it means no movement for the 2A in California regardless of who wins. Indeed many of the people I know who are rank the 2A high on their list of priorities are claiming they would rather vote Brown than Whitman because they don’t trust Whitman’s instincts on the 2A. She could be a gun grabbing rino fiscal conservative. Since she has no history we’ll never know, and because of Brown’s position there is no chance she will try to outflank him, and she won’t use it against him either.
Meg Whitman's new economy is new and improved and old fashioned.
Step right up, step right up...
Didn’t Meg Whitman ban the sale of gun barrels, magazines, triggers, firing pins and even empty shell casings on eBay?
“Lots of erstwhile conservative posters over on Calguns are voting Brown because he’s supposedly better on the 2nd Amendment.”
They are insane, Brown is left of Obama, that should tell people something.
“So what were Jerry Brown’s positions on gun control and the death penalty when he was governor and what are his positions now? The simple answer is then, as now, he was both for and against both of these issues.”
Interesting article you linked.
“Much to the chagrin of the government Attorney who recently argued before the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals that the right of an individual to carry loaded guns in public (except for certain “sensitive” places) should not apply to the states as it now applies to the Federal Government. One of the judges, during the oral arguments, pointed out to her point blank that her own attorney general (Jerry Brown) had filed a brief with the US Supreme Court saying that the US Supreme Court Opinion in the District of Columbia v. Heller decision should apply to the states.”
But read the rest of the article.
So Snowe and Collins win by being true Conservatives? Your logic is scary.
You mean this part?
“Brown was asked, given California’s history of electing Republican governors, how did he manage to get elected twice? I still recall Brown’s answer. His father had taught him that the only way a Democrat can be elected Governor of California is to be for the death penalty and against gun control.”

Meg on guns:
“Whitman said she supports abortion rights - including public funding for abortions - and believes tough gun laws like assault weapon bans and handgun control are appropriate for California. “
“we have to protect the children.
Who does that sound like? LOL.

Asked if she would favor cutting benefits such as welfare or health care to illegal immigrants, Whitman said that although border enforcement is important
she would not support such cuts, because “whether they’re legal or illegal (immigrants), those benefits go to children ... and we have to protect the children.”
It takes a Pueblo to raise a child.
Add in the 5% Democrat vote fraud and it looks like carly is toast. Her only hope is turnout, and turnout will only happen if she can energize conservatives. The second she turns left, it's over.
I’m with you.
California must “hit bottom” (ie., go bankrupt) before recovery can truly begin. When that hopeless alcoholic (California) wakes up and emerges from a dumpster one afternoon covered in its own urine, feces, and vomit, I would prefer it have the face of a Democrat like Brown rather than the face of any Republican, even a worthless p.o.s. like Whitman.
Go Jerry.
That matches what I’m hearing from my friends in the BA.
Independents, moderate (and normal) Dems are slowly breaking ranks and at least considering voting GOP.
Its going to take decades to re-build CA’s political structure to the point where a conservative can win a state wide election but things are moving in the right direction.
I’m stilling willing to trade Mark Kirk for her.
The gubernatorial race is where we should be greatly displeased. I wish the 7 point lead was in the Senate race instead.
A year ago I would have said Jerry Brown would win in a walk. Cali had a great chance to get a GOP Governor this year, if only one had actually run.
