Washington didn't grind to a sweaty halt last week under triple-digit temperatures. People didn't even slow down. Instead, the three-day, 100-plus-degree, record-shattering heat wave prompted Washingtonians to crank up their favorite humidity-reducing, electricity-bill-busting, fluorocarbon-filled appliance: the air conditioner.
This isn't smart. In a country that's among the world's highest greenhouse-gas emitters, air conditioning is one of the worst power-guzzlers. The energy required to air-condition American homes and retail spaces has doubled since the early 1990s. Turning buildings into refrigerators burns fossil fuels, which emits greenhouse gases, which raises global temperatures, which creates a need for -- you guessed it -- more air-conditioning.

Leftists want only the ruling class to have the comforts of heating, airconditioning, transportation, food, etc...
When you hear them decry the “wealth disparity”, what they’re really decrying is that the “wrong people” have wealth. Only they, the ruling class, deserve to be wealthy.
I’m guessing that the writer (can’t bring myself to call him ‘author’) left his air-conditioned home, and drove his air-conditioned car to his air-conditioned office to write this drivel....
It's as if it's reached critical mass or something. Each doofus creates two more.
Stan Cox, libturd. Hey Stan, here’s a suggestion that will save tons of CO2. Why don’t you turn off the power at the Washington Post buildings and distributions centers, and then commit suicide. It will save energy for us and more air to breathe, and besides, you’ll NEVER be missed!
They want us to live in caves...
Less than five years ago, tens of thousands of senior citizens died in France because they don’t allow air conditioning.
Stan, if your positive feedback theory were really true, the Earth would have turned into a thermonuclear furnace by now. Just because you say something loud and often enough does not make it true.
CO2 is good for plants and has no greenhouse effects. So crank up the AC.
Pray for America
No Thank you. I’ll be hiding in Air Conditioning until October. (Or until lows are under 60)
I work nights, and sleep during the day...
Dollars to doughnuts he wrote that idiotic article in an airconditioned office or home and drives an air conditioned car.
I’m sure old Stan doesn’t use A/C. He rides his bike to work, lives in a cave, types his editorials on an old fashion typewriter, and wears recycled garbage bags for clothes.
I installed two window units this weekend. The central AC just doesn’t keep the second floor crisp.
Liberalism: so easy even a caveman (only a caveman?) can live with it.
You think Stan’s wife put up with no AC?
Stan Cox had his own thermostat at 73.
Bet on it.
I didn’t read the article, but did the author mention that a few nuke plants would help out with powering the A/C and allow the enviro-weenies to charge up their subsidized electo-mobiles?
Old people dying, that's a good thing, isn't it?
Not that we intend to waste any health care on old people.
Just take their money from them and use it to provide health care to deserving minorities.
Incorrect premise alert:
“which raises global temperatures”
WRONG!
You lose, no parting gift, learn some science...
most likely, since it’s “do as I say, not as I do” with them..
Stan Cox is a moron.
