"According to the city Health Department, 2008 saw 89,469 abortions performed in New York City — seven for every 10 live births. Among black women, abortions out number live births by three to two."
These statistics from New York City more closely resemble the abortion mill culture of post-communist countries like China and Russia (who have historically devalued the worth of individual human life in favor of the collective good), than the old Clintonian mantra, “safe, legal and rare.”
I realize that many people, liberal and otherwise, are proponents of abortion choice, but the situation in New York City raises important ethical questions on the consequences of this perspective: Even if one is in favor of legalized abortion, does such a person want to live in a society in which more people are aborted than born? My guess is that most people do not. Secondly, if the answer is indeed no, how do we avoid this situation? A system which merely offers abortion as an alternative cannot discriminate between what pro-choice people deem as acceptable reasons for abortion and say, a woman who wants to use it as birth control. You have to allow them all.

Very true. The Guttmacher Institute put out a report which stated that 75% of those who had abortions were aware of, and had access to, contraceptives, but didn’t bother to use them.
Remember it’s about Obama’s “pay grade” to comment on that.

Holy Cow!!! A nearly 1 for 1 ratio of abortions to births in total but when broken down by race it is 3 deaths for every 2 births?

Politics provides the machinery to kill, or the constraints to avoid infanticide - it cannot, however, supplant the moral vacancy of those directly involved in the act of abortion.
The most distressing aspect of this is the epidemic lack of respect for life. Politicians reflect this, they don’t directly effect it. Citizens can be trained to behave according to laws established by politicians, but the collective will of the constituents should correct the immoral laws - that will for Life is scarce.
The saddest of all is back before the dubious ‘Great Society’ blacks had a higher marriage rate and lower out of wedlock birthrate than whites.
IMO, it was because the black community was able to use shame to help make fellow community members responsible. A man that knocked up a woman and didn’t do right by her was looked down upon.
Shame is a useful thing. Too bad many people have none and are never reminded that they should be ashamed of themselves.

The black family has been destroyed, as Daniel Patrick Moynihan, the last intelligent Democrat, pointed out in Congress in the 60s, when the black illegitimacy rate was 25%. He said that soon, the numbers would be much higher, therefore the expectation of marriage before childbearing was over for blacks.
Trouble is, at this point in time, white and hispanic illegitimacy rates are higher than black rates were then, and have been for some time. So it's all over but the profiteering by "wedding planners" and divorce lawyers.
