President Obama on Thursday labeled the recession a result of "a decade of irresponsibility" that he inherited, continuing his strategy of trying to frame this fall's congressional elections as a choice between Bush-era policies and his own.
"For the better part of 10 years, folks faced stagnant incomes, skyrocketing health care costs and tuition bills, and declining economic security," Mr. Obama said in a speech at a Kansas City, Mo., electric vehicle plant. "It was in the middle of this crisis that my administration walked through the door."
Though unemployment still hovers just below 10 percent, Mr. Obama said his policies -- including the $862 billion stimulus bill and small business tax breaks -- have moved the nation "in the right direction" and he touted the fact that the economy has added private-sector jobs for the last six months.

The Democrats took control of Congress in Jan 2007. The unemployment rate then was 4.7% and the DOW was at 12398. Heckuva job Nancy.
President Bush was an honorable man. It would never occur to him to whine, lie, blame, or dishonor America.
PING
I don’t except you to post this, I just wanted you to see it.
“When I got this patient,” Doctor Obama mused, “He had a 106 degree fever. I sawed his head off, and the fever is down drastically. He’s 76 degrees, now.”
nobama is a duplicitous destroyer. nobama hates America as we all love it. nobama wants you to be subjugated. nobama wants to go play golf. nobama is writing his legacy as the most incompetent, anti-American president ever. jimmah carter is all smiles (beyond his senile smile). All praise nobama!
YOU SAID UNEMPLOYMENT WOULDN’T GO OVER 8 PERCENT YOU F&*ING DICTATOR!!!!
“For the better part of 10 years, folks faced stagnant incomes, skyrocketing health care costs and tuition bills, and declining economic security,”
Ok. If you want to blame the housing bubble, and point to the Bush years as ballooning through his watch then bursting before you took office, that’s one thing.
To say that the economy was horrible during the entire 8 years of Bush is BULLSH!T! I was content with those years.
If tuition was too high then tell your sTUpId liBerAl buddies to LOWER THE COSTS AND BE A PART OF THE COLLECTIVE!!!
BHO’s hatred for Bush and this country know no end.
“What I remember was the lying, loud mouthed liberals complaining and talking up a recession in Bush years..”
Yep. They gave him until around late February of 2001 to start pinning the recession he INHERITED on him. They gave him a month. One month! The word ‘inherited’ was completely removed from their vocabulary.
They did the same thing for Clinton. The man inherited a recovered economy and gave him credit for it as soon as he sat his fat ass down in 1993.
They still complain about Reagan’s two lean years and call it “Reaganomics”, but it turned around by 1983-84. However, they have no problem giving FDR 10+ years to get the economy to turn around (no thanks to FDR that it did turn around).
One thing about a Leftie. . .they are never embarrassed by their ignorance their arrogance or their lies. And they NEVER feel guilt. Ever. . .
And don’t forget eight years of Clinton. . .and less than six months into a fracturous Presidency - thanks to the Dems - we have 9/11. It was, of course, Bush’s fault.
Going back to the economy:
Here’s the other one that get’s me.
Notice how this recession, the recession of 90-91, 81-82, 1980, 1973-75, recessions of the 60’s, were all presided over a Democrat Congress?
I’m sure recessions run in cycles, they all do. This is the game the Left plays so it’s a nice fact to point out.
Whenever I think about the bubba campaign and hear him calling Papa Bush a liar for raising taxes it makes my blood boil.
They threatened to shut down the government if he didn’t raise some taxes.....then they excoriated him for being unwilling to shut down the government.
Bubba refused to address him as President Bush and never mentioned him without using the word LIAR.
Anyone wishing for the Klinton’s back in office is out of their mind.
My husband became unemployed SEPTEMBER 11, 2009 and my son was six months before that, UNDER ZerO! (they both just went back to work this past week, but only for about 3 weeks worth of work, tile union, but severe financial damage is done to both!)
LOL, good one, graham!
There isn't one. They're still blaming Hoover for the depression FDR caused.
ok, get fussy on the dates!
Conversely, IIRC, the DOW in January 1995 when the GOP took the house for the first time in 40 years, was around 3000. Capitalist pigs sent it up over 12000.
But, in the big scheme of things, what was important was that Mark Foley sent some raunchy emails to a young, male page.
