With Republican National Committee Chairman Michael S. Steele facing a barrage of calls to resign, North Dakota Republican Party Chairman Gary Emineth, a social conservative, told The Washington Times on Friday he is quitting his post to prepare a possible challenge of Mr. Steele after November's midterm elections...
Mr. Emineth said what moved him to consider a bid for national chairman is what he called Mr. Steele's dismal failure with big donors who are giving to other, more trusted GOP campaign organizations as polls continue to show Republicans, if adequately financed, stand a good chance of regaining control of Congress.
"I was shocked at the last RNC meeting to learn how little money we got from our major donors," Mr. Emineth told The Times...
Among members of Mr. Steele's own committee, however, the disappointment with him has grown in proportion to the disappointment with his fundraising efforts.
"I have raised more money per capita for my party in my tiny state than New York or any other big state has raised for its party, but North Dakota gets no financial support from the RNC," Mr. Emineth said,
"The real contribution from a chairman is the ability to raise money from major donors," said Mr. Emineth. "We raised $400,000 in a single night in Fargo, North Dakota. Chairman Steele has managed to raise only $2 million from major donors all told."
"At times his hands-off approach to managing the national committee and his miscues have hurt the party," Mr. Emineth said. "He has been disappointing to many members."
In later posting the following words on the RNC's website, Mr. Steele appeared to eat his earlier words on Afghanistan -- and stand by them at the same time...

As badly as I want to see Steele gone, I am more interested in who will replace him. If it is another typical bland RINO with the same problems as Newt and McCain, I don’t see a change as being much of a benefit.
Yes, but is the RNC *capable* of selecting anyone other than another bland RINO?
Someone like Haley Barbour. He was excellent.
I have a hunch Newt is going to throw his hat in. I hope he is rejected with extreme prejudice. I am still pissed about Scozzafava. Newt, or anyone like him, would be the worst mistake the RNC could possibly make.
The RNC went to $hit after Haley Barbour. You are right. Newt should be done in politics after he embrace of green BS and of coarse making that video with Pelosi. Ever since that day whey Neut kissed the ring of Slick Willy in fromt of those Seasoned Citizens, he lost it. That must have been when Slick’s investigators found out that Neut was cheating on his wife. Neut is washed up.
You are mistaken about Newt.
The problem with him is not that he’s a RINO, it is that he is a Republican. He is very much a man of the traditional partisan system. That is why he supported Scozzafava. Because she was the Republican.
He will always support the Republican establishment candidate.
‘He will always support the Republican establishment candidate.’
Anyone who expects that the Chairman of the RNC won’t support GOP candidates is smoking some good stuff. The main job of the party chairman is to shake the money tree. It would be nice if they did not try to interfere in candidate selection, especially since they are so bad at it.
I am proud to be the official Plymouth Area check donor in charge of reflecting the mood of the people in the Plymouth Area in the official RNC surveys of official donors. My many friends are in awe of my ability to shred those requests and keep a firm grip on my closed checkbook at the same time. The results of my own personal Plymouth Area survey are that the RNC can pound sand and I have reflected those results in my survey results.
“Haley Barbour”
Well, the left certainly hates him enough.
I don’t trust anybody that the leftards don’t hate.
Hey RNC, when all of you grow a collective pair of balls and start standing up to the Democrats, the MSM and this Kenyan pResident, then maybe you'll start getting donors again. Screw you. We the People are going to elect Conservatives THIS TIME, whether you approve or not.
There have been plenty of people who have wanted him to resign for a long time. I am one.
He’s terrible. He and McCain should both resign and get jobs as the “conservative” voices on CNN.
I think the problem is the RINO brand. Any $ raised by Steele is garunteed to go (at least part way) to RINOs as well as the decent R’s.
Target your contributions to the right candidates and you starve out the RINOS—thus Steele’s fundraising dilemma.
I doubt Haley is interested. Looks like he is planning to take a shot at POTUS in 2012.
haley is fabulous. i would like to see him elected president.
Whoever picked Steele should be expunged too.
And yes, his replacement is crucial. Someone who is ultraconservative, knows the ropes, can organize, etc.
There hasn't been an RNC chairman like that since... Haley Barbour.
I’m currently reading “Courage and Consequence” and would like to nominate Karl Rove for RNC Chairman. He’s a past president of the College Republicans and the man is a brilliant strategist and money raiser.
Sarah Palin.
I agree that Steele sucks, but why can we not a get a clarion call for any of our conservative views? Why isn’t there screaming and threatened walkouts over Kagan? Where were they “eat our own” morons during the health debate? I am really tired of faux conservatism.
He’s had one too many “gaffs”. It seems it’s one right after another and that means the man is not capable of doing the job. His hanging on is getting embarrassing.
