BP oil spill extent - satellite views, what obama and media isn't showing you
vanity

Posted on 07/02/2010 4:59:39 PM PDT by backpacker_c

obama claims to have been in charge from day one... see what blocking the construction of berms because of possible environmental damage, not making an exception in the jones act, not allowing skimmers due to the fact the discharged sea water isn't 100% oil free, is allowing to to occur offshore, and not being reported by the media.

Satellite views of the oil spill in the gulf are available from http://rapidfire.sci.gsfc.nasa.gov/subsets/?project=gulfofmexico

The extent of the oil in the gulf is staggering.... and you don't get a idea of the size, unless you compare the image to something like a google map of the area...

To see these images, go to daily images, and browse the archieve, using 1km or 500m views. A sample image is as follows....

you may have to cut and paste the url...

if the link doesn't work, the image source is a (warning - HUGE) 4M image found here. Scroll 1/2 way down, and 1/2 way horizontally, to find the upper gulf coast, from louisianna to the florida panhandle.

hope this is of interest....

Wow. That is the largest I have ever seen the oil slick in their sat images. Shows how the Alex storm surge moved the oil North East. This weekend we have the chance for a Tropical Depression forming right over the slick. If that rotation gets going it will move the oil in every direction, since the circular depression will travel right over the spill east to west.

Oil slicks are slightly grey. Clouds are brighter white.

And all for want of the EPA to approve the 4 Dutch decanting skimmers, still in port in the Netherlands. The ship A Whale can skim and decant 500,000 barrels a day, the Dutch say their four ships together can do twice that amount.

But none are at work, because none can ever meet the EPAs absolutely ridiculous 15 ppm discharge. What would you do, remove 99% of the oil from the water, or leave it all in the water. Obowma chose to leave it all in the water, and try and pass cap and trade. Never let a crisis go to waste. What a leader, the Obowma is.

Does anybody see the lunacy of the Obowma and HIS EPA? Where is leadership?

They are supposed to let the A Whale start testing tomorrow. And what if it can only remove half the oil from the water? Is that bad, or just better. I say we allow the pelicans to vote on that outcome.

Big government incompetency, up in lights.

I don’t believe it is incompetency. I believe it is the intentional destruction of a good chunk of four Southern states and 1/3 of our oil industry by an anti-american. IMHO.

Explaination to all...

image is from june 25, before the gulf got covered in clouds from alex... you are seeing an image of the norhtern part of the gulf, from louisianna, the florida panhandle and the west coast of florida on the right hand side fo the image.

the land mass is a dark greenish gray..the ocean is a lighter gray, with some darker areas in it. the oil on the surface is the whiter stuff extending from the bp rig to the coastline from pensacola to gulfport/biloxi.

an earlier video of the spill is available on youtube, and you can see how the spill started here

I don’t buy that. The south wouldn’t take it and I believe the Assclown-In-Chief even realizes that. It would be like an act of war against the south so I am not so sure I would believe that. I think it’s just another example of the guy being clueless and a pathetic excuse for a leader.

So that shows the oil slicks prior to the Alex storm surge. So all that oil up north was moved onto shore by Alex.
