Satellite views of the oil spill in the gulf are available from http://rapidfire.sci.gsfc.nasa.gov/subsets/?project=gulfofmexico

The extent of the oil in the gulf is staggering.... and you don't get a idea of the size, unless you compare the image to something like a google map of the area...

To see these images, go to daily images, and browse the archieve, using 1km or 500m views. A sample image is as follows....

you may have to cut and paste the url...

if the link doesn't work, the image source is a (warning - HUGE) 4M image found here. Scroll 1/2 way down, and 1/2 way horizontally, to find the upper gulf coast, from louisianna to the florida panhandle.

hope this is of interest....

Explaination to all...

image is from june 25, before the gulf got covered in clouds from alex... you are seeing an image of the norhtern part of the gulf, from louisianna, the florida panhandle and the west coast of florida on the right hand side fo the image.

the land mass is a dark greenish gray..the ocean is a lighter gray, with some darker areas in it. the oil on the surface is the whiter stuff extending from the bp rig to the coastline from pensacola to gulfport/biloxi.

an earlier video of the spill is available on youtube, and you can see how the spill started here

I don’t suppose it’s just a coincidence the live feed for the underwater robo cameras at the well head have been down all day

The coasts of Miss/Al/Panhandle just got slammed the past two days and there is now a new storm system brewing just to the east of the Oil Spill. May not make it to a Tropical Depression, but it will cause thunderstorms in the area. These storms will travel right over the spill east to west. Gonna cause more problems this weekend. And the storm surge looks to be fairly large from these storms. And they once again devastate the Miss/Al/Panhandle coastlines.

Wave Model - Gulf of Mexico Surf Height
Press the pause and move to the 30 hour spot. Looks like it is predicting wave height caused by this new line of tropical thunderstorms developing. The 36-80 hour marks show how the coast is slammed again. Just a prediction though. Looks like we need more prayers for the area cause our Fascist government (BP+Obama) is clueless as usual.
