No skimmers in sight as oil floods into Mississippi waters

GULFPORT, Miss. — A morning flight over the Mississippi Sound showed long, wide ribbons of orange-colored oil for as far as the eye could see and acres of both heavy and light sheen moving into the Sound between the barrier islands. What was missing was any sign of skimming operations from Horn Island to Pass Christian. U.S. Rep. Gene Taylor got off the flight angry. "It’s criminal what’s going on out there," Taylor said minutes later. "This doesn’t have to happen.” A scientist onboard, Mike Carron with the Northern Gulf Institute, said with this scenario,

is another Your All Going To Die

Glad you mentioned that.

This is not the LARGEST oil spill on record. Someone posted a map showing graphically the oil spills around the world, and this one was one of the smallest.

BUT, the DANGER will come from the HANDLING of the MESS.

We are a nation that had the resources, the money, and the offer of total cooperation from other nations (without charge) to deal with this released oil and prevent any damage.Other nations, which had larger spills, less money, less 'emergency boom equipment' in preparedness, older technology, and less help, performed much better.

When the President of the nation, with all the government services, and the various military and guard manpower, is unable to facilitate a quick and effective response.... it is not because he can't......it is because he doesn't want to.

Obama turned down the offer of foreign skimmers, saying that we didn't need them. He just got around to requisitioning the skimmers from other areas of the country and the bureaucrats in charge in the various states are stonewalling the request.

The only good thing that I can say about Obama's response to the BP Gulf disaster is that it will be the last nail in the coffin of the Democrat Party in November and to celebrate that suicidal demise, here is a link to a New Orleans style funeral dirge that I think the whole country should be playing in November Just a Closer Walk with Thee

I think that it was the movie, Dr. No, that had a scene using that song in a New Orleans Funeral procession.

Yes , if the criminals were out of the loop this could be handled very quickly and effectively.

He wants to wreck the economy of the entire gulf region.

If you are just going to give amnesty to entire third world countries and let them move in, you need to make sure the environment matches their lifestyle. Why would Obama care what the Gulf ends up like? It's not going to be part of the United States anymore.

And after we take care of ‘our’ oil, we have to ‘take care’ of our criminals quickly and effectively with a loop.

I have a question.

If the JONES ACT is what is prohibiting FOREIGN SHIPS from OFFERING FREE SKIMMING (which makes the whole thing a lie because American UNION employees would not be getting PAID at all, therefore the JONES ACT doesn’t even apply), how is it that BP, which is a FOREIGN company is working in the GULF, operating SHIPS, and as of this moment, is in complete control of the area and the coastal regions?

Did someone in the administration give them another waiver?

Besides, there are probably nonunion workers on that skimmer and everyone knows it is against the law for them to work in the Gulf unless he waives the Jones Act

BP and TRANSOCEAN were working in the Gulf on this site since February. Since they are not American owned companies, how did they get away with violating the Jones Act? Are all their ships American owned?

No mention of the Jones Act on any Sunday shows I watched. We should be shouting it from the rooftops!!

I tuned in to This Week after Chrissy Wallace show, This week had a fair and balanced panel with 5 and 1 half Democrats to the shorts of George Will.

Could not quite make out the Meat the press panel, for the brief moment I watched, probably closer to 6 dems and 0 Republicans. Fairly fair and balanced considering we live in roughly a 50/50 country....roll eyes

Bottom line is, our current administration will allow foreign companies to drill for oil, but if there is a leak, foreign companies and nations are not allowed to help clean up the mess.

Is that right?

“Bottom line is, our current administration will allow foreign companies to drill for oil, but if there is a leak, foreign companies and nations are not allowed to help clean up the mess.”

I haven’t seen it worded that way yet - but I do believe you are correct! This does appear to be the official policy.

No skimmers in sight as oil floods into Mississippi waters

Those skimmers must not have life preservers and fire extinguishers. We know that Obama won't let the Coast Guard let them into the Gulf without those two much needed skimming materials.

If Cheney's pals didn't need to get rid of all that illegal dispersant, all that oil could have been skimmed up immediately as it surfaced and gas would be under $2 by now.

Call me greedy, but that makes me mad, really regally mad!

It's either deliberate or incompetence on a grand scale.

I too vote for deliberate.

Here then, I will reveal the justification that is obvious, yet unspoken.

It is better to have a long term loss of income for all those in the Gulf area, and endanger public health, than it is to have some foreigner DONATE time and equipment which could have prevented it all.

Better to risk the lives and economy of those cheap fishermen who don’t donate to your campaign fund, than to have your UNION friends not have a BIG ENOUGH STASH to be able to make ‘generous’ campaign donations from.
