Operation to stop oil leak in Gulf of Mexico halted [Due to Weather)
Euronews.net ^ | 26/06/10

Efforts to siphon oil from the ruptured well in the Gulf of Mexico will be put on hold for the next five days. A storm, bringing with it gale-force winds, is threatening the area and the U.S. Coastguard are saying the time is needed to shut down the operation. While work is stopped, the oil could flow into the sea unchecked for the next two weeks.

About 80 miles north of Comfort. Comfort was a really nice, small town back in the ‘70s. But being close to San Antonio, I bet its grown a lot. I’m sure the positives still far outweigh anything negative.
I grew up in San Antonio.

I was watching the Weather Channel and they indicated the cleanup efforts were hampered by the heat and humidity. That workers had to rest for 40 minutes out of every hour (20 work 40 rest) due to fears of heat exhaustion.

What. The. Heck???????

First off it’s on the water, so yes it’s warm but the breezes cool things considerably. Second, plenty of water, hats and sunscreen will do you just fine.

It’s amazing we get any outdoor work done at all here in the South.

Clearly union labor. There is no way that anyone needs to work only 1/3 of an hour due to heat and humidity. It’s ridiculous!!!

I’ve tried and tried and can not confirm this story. I think it is bogus and should be removed.

Ixtoc I oil spill was only 6 months old when the Hurricane season ended in 1979. Therefore the oil spilled by that point was just about 2/3rds of the total (roughly). That would be less less then Horizon depending on what estimate you look at. Even if the total amount were in the Gulf at the time it still would still not be enough.

I am sorry, but the speculation Rush was referring to is flat wrong. I like Rush, but he is miss informed.

What Rush was referring to was the hurricane in 79 after the enormous spill off the coast of Mexico- he said the hurricane never actually made landfall and there was speculation it may have been due to the spill... which was many times larger than this one
-------------
This is absolutely incorrect. The oil is neither large enough in scope or uniform enough on the surface to have any appreciable affect on a Tropical system. It is simply a matter of scale. Despite how large the spill is, it is not nearly large enough. We did these types of calculations in Meteorology Graduate school. These were done to mainly to debunk the shysters that are developing a film to put over the water to stop a hurricane. It simply cannot happen at these scales.
-------------
Rush stated that the oil may actually hinder a hurricane. Surface temperature of the ocean may be different.

I think this is a dumb move, this storm will not throw much of anything near the drill site IMHO.

UMMM

None of the computer models impact the oil spill region. Pretty much ALL of the data takes this well south into Mexico or southern Texas.

So, if they shut down it isn’t because of this system coming over them.

Could be some waves/swells. But this storm isn’t going to hit the oil spill area.

It just might be.

I just checked buoys in the area and winds are ten knots or less. I will be amazed if they ever get to 20-25 which should not be a problem for major drillers like BP.

IMHO,the only reason to stop drilling and capping the well would be to put more oil in the water and support environmental Marxists who want all drilling stopped.

To get there they need more oil in the water everywhere including the coastline.

Precisely. That is why the Tugs ordered it. And they are getting paid scale, OT, hazard pay, shift differentials, and a per diem allowance for beer.

I saw the weather report last night, and it showed a change in the storm track trending more toward Mexico, etc, which is a good thing for the BP situation.

This is becoming an increasingly common error nowadays. People spell it as they say it.

Then it should be "doo 2 wethr"

“Do to Weather
If a storm makes landfall near the oil rig, the entire region could be in deep do do.”

The entire region is already in deep do do. Our thoughts and prayers are with all the folks in the Gulf Region. They do not deserve to bear the brunt of Obama’s refusal to cut through the bureaucracy and allow more progress on containg the spill.

The battleship Arizona which was sunk in Pearl Harbor is still leaking oil. From time to time, tar balls can be seen slowly floating to the top.

Neither do I. This video would probably be the first thing from PBS that I have viewed for over 20 years. It can’t be described as a production of PBS anyway.
