MANAMA: Israel is massing warplanes in the Caucasus for an attack on Iran, it was revealed yesterday.
Preparations are underway to launch the military attack from Azerbaijan and Georgia, reports our sister paper Akhbar Al Khaleej, quoting military sources.
Israel was, in fact, training pilots in Turkey to launch the strike and was smuggling planes into Georgia using Turkish airspace, they said.
However, Turkey was unaware of Israel's intention of transferring the planes to Georgia, the sources said.
The unexpected crisis between Israel and Turkey following an Israeli commando raid on an aid flotilla bound for Gaza Strip hit Israeli calculations.
Azerbaijan-based intelligence units, working under the cover of technicians, trainers and consultants, have helped with the preparations, the sources said.
Military equipment, mostly supplied by the US, was transported to a Georgian port via the Black Sea.
Georgian coastguard and Israeli controllers are co-operating to hide the operations from Russian vessels, said the sources.

I totally agree.
Israel is very tight-lipped about any type of assault like this. I find it hard to believe they would allow this info to be revealed - unless it was disinformation.
If you’re really planning to hit somebody .. you don’t tell them in advance so they can be waiting for you.
Just like you don’t tell your enemies when you’re leaving the battlefield.

I think the “flotilla” ship has not sailed as planned .. simply because 11 American/Israeli ships have suddenly made an appearance.
I can’t believe the our current CIC would let the US military help Israel.
But I certainly believe we will be treated to a flood of disinformation as Israel gets ready to do something.
It’s one of BO’s worst decisions—not to support the dissidents in Iran. Unforgivable.
Or it means that the story isn't true. It's hard to believe that the Russians are working with the Georgians (and the Israelis) against the Iranians. what kind of deal would that require.
The everyday Iranian people want a secular democratic government and are protesting and organizing against the Regime. I have been following some on twitter and the videos of regime abuses are horrible. One video showed the police throwing students off the roof of the university dorm with their (students) hands tied behind their backs. The mullahs are trying to scare the people into submission.

Machiavelli once said that if you strike at the king, you must kill him. Merely defanging Iran by setting its nuclear plans back only buys a few years at best. They'll be back. You need to remove the current government to buy real safety.
Regime change in Iran will not happen overnight.
Correct. For a model, look at how regime change happened 30 years ago. The Shah pulled out at our insistence, and we inserted a puppet (Bhakhtiar) who failed. We went with Islamism Lite (Barzegan) who folded when the Iranians decided to jump off a cliff with Khomenei. It took several years for the entire process to unfold.
So reverse that process. The Israelis hit Iranian command-and-control and take out the Revolutionary Guard and Religious Police installations. The result is a popular revolution resulting in Islamism Lite -- which is what the current political opposition is offering. The Iranians tire of this after a while and opt for a kind of mixed secular government under a different leader. That government folds, and the young Shah returns in triumph to reclaim his patrimony and set up the kind of secular system his father wanted but was never able to implement.
What Israel would provide here is a triggering event to tip the Iranian system over the edge.

I posited this the other day and was shot down. But to me, it would be easier to de-stabilize the regime than to blast several hardened sites into oblivion. Less blowback, too.
There is another solution, which you guys have never heard of, and EVERY literate Sunni Moslem knows about and fears. The true King of Saudi Arabia is the Aga Khan. His ancestors lived in Iran, he is related to the Shah, so the Iranians all know about him.
They KNOW that someday a man descended from this family will rule Saudi Arabia and Iran, the question is WHEN. So there is a family, with male progeny, waiting in line to take over both S.A. and Iran. Oh, by the way, the Aga Khan is 64th in line for the British throne. No joke.
I rather don't think the Israelis bluff about stuff concerning their national survival. Their motto being NEVER AGAIN and so forth.
