Number of childless American women in their 40s has risen sharply since 1970s
The Washington Post ^ | 2010-06-25 | Donna St. George

Nearly one in five American women in her early 40s is childless, according to a report that shows a striking increase in women who don't have biological children.

The trend was much less common in the 1970s, when one in 10 women did not have children by 40 to 44, the age bracket researchers use to designate the end of childbearing years.

The report, released Friday by the Pew Research Center, cites social and cultural shifts behind the change, including less pressure to have children, better contraceptive measures and expanded job opportunities for women.

(snip)

Overall, the report found that white women are more likely to be childless, as are women with more education. The analysis, based largely on census data, comes amid changing attitudes about women who do not have children.

"You misquote my standards. How would my parents have known around 50 years ago that today would be so bad? "

That's actually where I'm going with my arguments: no one knows what tomorrow will bring and to say "Many don’t have children because the world absolutely sucks" is kind of short-sighted. We've been in terrible predicaments before as a nation and it has always been a struggle; but since no one really knows what tomorrow will bring we can't just quit. Who knows? Your child (if you chose to have one) may be the next Churchill or Reagan.

I wouldn’t be too sure your elitist cats are liberals. I have had a few cats who behave much like Rush Limbaugh: they think they are right 98% of the time and smarter than everybody else with one paw tied behind their backs.

Your haughty cats might just be Rush conservatives. lol.

Social stratification by IQ is an inevitable product of a technological society that values cognitive abilities. IMO, the government should not engage in any form of social engineering.

Wow. You could write a thesis on those two sentences. My first thought is that there are people out there who view the rest of us as chess pieces to be moved around to suit their view of how society should work. The fundamental question of "Do I have a right to interfere in someone else's life" never occurs to them.

Amen to that. Feminism (as perverted by the feminazis) has poisoned and continues to poison generations anew, for both women and men.

Not every woman over 40 who is childless is a libtard or nutcase.

No, true that. There are just more than ever, and they're not all there willingly, even if they say otherwise. And lest they start to feel a tiny bit alone, along comes Sex in the City and the like to show the cougars how to keep fulfilled long past their 40's.

There are over 6 billion other people on the planet. We are not in danger of going extinct from lack of children. Also, why didn’t you have more? Why stop where you did? Shouldn’t everyone keep having one child after another until they can biologically have no more? I’d hate for that Reagan to be missed.

The fact remains not everyone wants children for their own reasons. Some do want children. To each his own.

Why have kids when you can party into your 50s an die alone?

Because you won’t have anyone to bury you.

“Who are you to decide that women must be baby machines?”

I’m not sure if you are aware of this but women currently are the only sex that can create babies. There is a trend for the past 10 years in particular for men to stay home and take care of the children but give it enough time and our genetic engineers will have men staying home making them, too! But if they were able to do that then the geneticists might as well use only two ova from two different woman (lesbians) create children which they are feverishly working on.

And with women being favored over men in an affirmative action sense there’s no reason why 90%+ of women will excel academically and go on to college or university while the men are given little to no choice but to stay home similar to the way women were 100 years ago. Based on what you have said I’m sure you’d be happy to see that happen.

The fecundity of liberated, Caucasian women is at an all-time low because they are too busy wanting to “be the man” while the other races having much higher fertility rates to pick up the slack. If minorities were not here in America our fertility rate would be much like that of European countries, Russia, and Japan instead of the 2.1 minimal replacement rate. If the trend continues I expect Whitey to be around for only a few hundred more years, maybe less.

The Western world has made it possible for women to live easier and live longer, more productive lives. And how do they return the favor? By not producing children! Children...how quaint. Why have children when you can have more more fun doing other things!

“Not every women wants children and believe me it’s no picin having children these days.”

I understand not every woman wants a child or children and some definitely should not have children, but I know a lady who has a daughter who has decided not to have children because they are too much work. Raising children has never been easy and never will be. It has always been that way and always will, but those that love children don’t see it that way. To them children are worth sleepless nights, worrying about their safety, and even dying for.

“And what’s wrong with having a cat farm?”

If you look at the Hebrew word “feminine” you will find that it has the same root word as the Hebrew word “hope.” Every time a women shirks her God-given design to have children the world becomes a darker place because with every new child comes the hope of a better tomorrow. No children, no hope, no future.

Can cats or any other animal make the world a better place? They can ease are psychological pain some what but they aren’t capable of helping mankind rise of above it’s own animal side that causes so much pain and suffering in the first place. Animals have been known to do some amazing things to help and save human beings from negative situations but they cannot and never will motivate a human being to become more human. Only other people and God Himself can do that.

Ancient Egyptians worshiped cats. Where are they today? They are no more.

The one thing cats are not is judgmental. When I read posts on here slamming those of us without children or for any other reason, I can always count on my furry buddy to nuzzle me and make me feel a lot better about myself.

I'm just saying that I see nothing wrong with a women deciding not to have children. I see the most repulsive people have children and should not. God gives children to any despicable human and those children end up dead from abuse or worse neglected by the incompetent mother.

I have two girls and two cats!

The theory is that “collectively we all need children and benefit when they grow into productive adults, but the cost of raising children is increasingly being borne by fewer and fewer in the general population.”

So we child-free are riding on the backs of parents.

“I’m just saying that I see nothing wrong with a women deciding not to have children.”

More and more Western and westernized women who can’t see beyond their nose are of that opinion and as a result the fertility rates are less than replacement levels. No children equals no future. Nothing wrong with having no future.

“I see the most repulsive people have children and should not. God gives children to any despicable human and those children end up dead from abuse or worse neglected by the incompetent mother.”

This is the perfect excuse for Western women not to have children so the children of repulsive people will dominate the Earth.

“I have two girls and two cats!”

Congratulations! You’ve done your part to keep the non-repulsive, Western children below replacement levels! Instead of having two more children you have two cats that stand in as substitutes. This is a growing trend in America and the West.

Having a pet will not force you to become a better person than you were yesterday. A pet can never love you like a child can. No children, no future. If no future for you makes you feel great then more power to you. As long as you are concerned about your own wellbeing and not others that’s really all that matters.

This is virtually the first time in history that the most educated, employed, wealthy, fit, etc., are not having as many children as the uneducated and lower class.

They made a movie about this, "Idiocracy."

"The fact remains not everyone wants children for their own reasons. Some do want children. To each his own."

Your specific argument was "because the world absolutely sucks" - which is what drew me into the discussion, since it could easily be argued the world has always been tough. Knock yourself out - don't have kids.

Keep on working. Millions on welfare (corporate and individual) are depending on you!

Remember the Cloward-Piven strategy.
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-bloggers/2542399/posts

According to Simpson and Beck, Columbia University sociologists, husband and wife team Richard Cloward and Frances Fox Piven, devised a strategy in the early 1960s, to crash the U.S. economy and bring on socialist revolution by deliberately overloading state welfare rolls to the point of bankruptcy.
