Barack Obama is refusing to listen to reason on economic policy
The Telegraph ^ | 06/25/2010 | Jeremy Warner

Posted on 06/25/2010 7:09:47 AM PDT by SeekAndFind

Rarely has the dismal science of economics inflamed such passions. While the "cuts versus growth" debate has been building steadily for more than a year on both sides of the Atlantic, over the past week it has exploded into open international hostilities.

A compromised form of words will already have been agreed for the communiqué to follow this weekend's meeting of G8 and G20 leaders; the sherpas who do the preparatory donkey work for these stage-managed events will have ensured it.

But behind the anodyne platitudes of any statement, the tensions have reached fever pitch. Gone is the co-operative consensus that, in adversity 18 months ago, brought G20 nations together to fight the downturn.

In its place lies a clear line of demarcation that almost exactly mirrors our own political debate in Britain over the economic consequences of George Osborne's Emergency Budget cuts. Yet though this debate masquerades as high intellect, it has about as much to do with economics as the outcome of the World Cup.

President Barack Obama, backed to some extent by Nicolas Sarkozy of France, wants economic stimulus to continue until the global recovery is unambiguously secure. In the opposite corner is Germany's Angela Merkel, now oddly aligned with Britain's new political leadership in thinking the time is right for fiscal austerity.

Like much of what Mr Obama says and does these days, the US position is cynically political. With mid-term elections looming and the Democrats down in the polls, the administration hasn't yet even begun to think about deficit reduction. Obama is much more worried by the possibility of a double-dip recession and the damage this would do to his chances of a second term, than the state of the public finances.

President Barack Obama could learn from the old-fashioned German habit of saving money before spending it, argues Jeremy Warner.

As it happens, the public debt trajectory is rather worse in the US than it is in Europe, yet Obama has adopted an overtly "spend until we are broke" approach in a calculated bid for growth and votes.

Obama is not in the business of listening to anyone. He’s very openly following the communist ideology, and we’re sitting back and letting him do it. I’ve not been on this Earth long, but I can tell we’re headed to darker times very, very soon.

President Obama is not listening to ANY kind of reasoning. He is ignorant and tone-deaf. He's simply in denial of ALL reality and thinks he can defy the Law of Gravity if need be.

This piece reminded me of an earlier article in the American Spectator, called fittingly, "Obama in Rude Denial." Here's what happened at a White House lunch between CEOs and the President (BTW, the CEOs had to pay for their lunch.)

"Most of these people [in the Administration] have never had a real job in their lives. They don't understand a thing about business, and that includes the President," says a senior lobbyist for one of the companies that announced the charge. "My CEO sat with the President over lunch with two other CEOs, and each of them tried to explain to the President what this bill would do to our companies and the economy in general. First the President didn't understand what they were talking about. Then he basically told my boss he was lying. Frankly my boss was embarrassed for him; he clearly had not been briefed and didn't know what was in the bill."

I admit that I like Sarkozy. However ...

Here we have a situation where Germany and the UK support the idea of financial austerity, and France supports the idea of "spend your way out of debt".

And Obama wants to take economic advice from France?

My fear was that Obamao would win the election, and he did!

Now my biggest fear is that Obamao will pull a Clinton and start moving to the middle!

As much as it is going to hurt, I truly hope he continues to not listen and head straight for the iceberg! Once it hits, there will be no blaming the last captain! PERIOD!

You are soooooo right. For Obama? Its about the destruction and death of the US. I am still amazed that no one has launched him into the next realm, but obviously the mindless masses still adore him....

Americans today are flawed in their self identity and it is this weakness that will get them slaughtered by the likes of Barack and the turmoil he is bringing to the world via America.

It is coming as long as we let him take us down that road.

Spot-on.

Unfortunately, people do not accept the fact that Obama is set to bring America down to a third world status.

He is doing a superb job of accomplishing this goal with little or no opposition.

People refuse to look clearly at what he says and forces America to do. We are being raped every day, all day.

As bad as that YES!!!

How are you liking it? When it is too late and can not be undone ... people will finally see, hopefully. In Russia ... the people did not see that it was him (Stalin( killing them ... they wrote to him for help. Inhumanity followed.

God help us in our day, In Jesus name, amen.

Raham’s pending departure and Obama’s interest in amnesty via executive order affirms that he is not moving to the middle.

The question is, can we survive the rest of his term and will there be enough of a change in November to contain his radical agenda?

It is interesting to remember that the RATS and their LSM poodles spent several years talking down the booming economy.

Now, the results of their efforts have taken hold and they are finding out that inertia may not always be your friend.

The 2nd Amendment was written to maintain the sovereignty of the individual. We’ve been given the explicit instruction to overthrow tyrannical government when they come. I can’t think of a more tyrannical government, but there’s no one with the stones to cast the first volley, myself included.

Additionally, the military is only intended to be mustered during wartime. We are on a war footing now, but there are no officially declared wars. If the military wasn’t an issue, something Obama is doing well to accomplish, then the people could easily overthrow the government. My biggest issue with all of this: when a servicemember takes their oath, they vow to protect us from enemies foreign AND domestic. I’m pretty sure Obama and his regime qualify as the latter and possibly as the former. How come no one’s doing anything?

What does it say about the mindset of our president when leaders of socialist-friendly Euro states berate the U.S. for not being fiscally responsible?

There is frustration among other G20 members, particularly Germany, about mixed signals from the US, and an American consumer culture that seems unable to grasp a world after debt - other than one in which there is even more debt . The Merkel Government in particular is leaking that, while they have received forthright criticism in private from US officials such as Tim Geithner, these contrast with more emollient statements made in public. This confirms the Slog information of some weeks back of Obama’s irate phone calls to EU members - and also again makes one anxious about the man’s fiscal compass: his first messages were ‘get your deficits down’, but now it’s ‘get your consoomers spending’. OK Barack, we’ll do both then.

I don’t know how Germany can continue to hold the Euro up when other countries like France won’t cooperate.

Germany might be able to help Greece... but for how long ? What happens when Spain, Portugal and the rest of the other welfare state dominos fall ? Will the German tax payer be willing to shoulder the cost of the rescue of these other profligate countries too ?

I don’t think so.

Politicians are politicians. Even though Sarah is a Conservative, politics corrupts the spirit of everyone who gets involved. Power is the ultimate corruptive modality. If she ascends to office, she may very well be like Reagan, but I doubt she’ll be the same person after 4 years.

We need God-fearing, family-oriented patriots to rise up and take back this country; not politicians with aspirations of power.

That is what she is, ... she fills the bill. I have a 75 years old cousin
that has lived in Anchorage for over 30 years. He tells me Sarah is the real deal. My cousin was born and raised in Oklahoma, went to the navy, worked for FFA 20 plus years etc. He is not a liberal by any definition.

His praise of Sarah as a true level headed sincere conservative is better than our imagining all sorts of things based on bias media. MO

No one but a person familiar with politics will run for any office. They would be absolutely slaughter by the liberal press/medias for sure.

Sarah is the best we have. She is a great communicator and obviously the liberals are scared of her ability to relate to the people of America. Their attacks have mostly been personal. Calling her dangerous and such nonsense, impugning her children, her small town roots, and her pioneer spirit.

Do not buy the BS.
