McChrystal Resigns Over Critical Remarks, Obama Names Petraeus as Replacement
Fox News ^ | June 23, 2010

President Obama announced Wednesday that he has accepted Gen. Stanley McChrystal's resignation as the commander of U.S. forces in Afghanistan following a scathing article in which he and his aides were quoted criticizing the administration for its handling of the war.

In doing so, Obama nominated Gen. David Petraeus, the head of U.S. Central Command and the former commanding general in Iraq, to replace him. The president stressed that while the decision was a difficult one, it does not represent a change in the course of the war.

"This is a change in personnel, but it is not a change in policy," Obama said in the Rose Garden, Petraeus by his side and McChrystal nowhere to be seen.

Exactly. So why help Obama dump the current command in Afghanistan?

Obama is a childish buffoon, and why everyone continues to cover up that reality is beyond me.

Yes, and then he back-peddled like a pro.

He must have gotten Republican consultation to know just how to do it right...

As for the Republicans, you’re exactly right. What more DID I expect?

Here’s the topic of Obama’s incompetence front and center, and who do they choose to back? Why Obama of course. Nothing to fear from this administration, and everything to fear from a General telling it like it is.

Normally, I don’t buy into Generals doing this. In this instance, every General should be doing it. This guy is a rogue enemy of the state. It’s time to say it in public.

Wimps in the White House... the Rolling Stone about a Lefty’s Lefty? Ouch...

Does the article back that lead-in?

I wonder if anyone explained to The Won that he just demoted General Patreus?

I think it's either temporary or there's a quid pro quo involved. Mullen's second term as Chairman of the Joint Chief's ends in 2011. Petraeus may have been told that the job is his if he can first clean up Afghanistan.

If McChrystal gets another three or four star job, or retires as a four star general, you can bet that the price paid was to keep his mouth shut. If he’s out the door as a Major General, he will be spilling the beans very soon.

I'd be willing to bet that McChrystal went straight from the White House to the Pentagon where his retirement papers were waiting.

Because McChrystal took credit for the decision. Since literally everything comes into the country by air, he viewed the cargo space used for Pizza Hut and Burger King to be a waste and a misuse of scarce resources. Can’t say I disagree with him.

But then, that’s why I said I bet the arrogant pos didn’t even read it. His propaganda minister (Gibbs) showed it to him and that was all he needed to see to throw a fit

I mean, I remember hearing that Burger King was closed down but I did not know or perhaps forgot that the order came from General McChrystal. To be honest, neither can I

He’s a third grade child. He reacted like a third grade child. Someone challenged his supremacy, and he had to get even.

Most adults would have sent a terse note to him saying knock it off. Obama had to fire him. Insecurity is his hallmark.

Is this viewed as a “promotion” for Petraeus or simply a lateral move?
