Troubled former New York Giants superstar Tiki Barber claims he is broke and unable to pay the divorce settlement demanded by the mother of his four children after he was axed from NBC's "Today" show, the New York Post reported Wednesday.
Barber -- who ditched his wife of 11 years, Ginny, for 23-year-old blond former NBC intern Traci Lynn Johnson -- claims his career is in tatters and that he has taken a huge financial hit since his estimated $300,000 NBC contract ended.

Happened to the woman I love as well.
The piling on of single women has more to do with single- never married women, not divorced women. Those are two very different cases.

I doubt if anyone will dig too deeply, rich athlete with zipper problem is an easy to write story with lots of “I told you so”, hand wringing over “the children”, and whether pro sports engenders arrogance, blah blah blah.

There are also some new tidbits about the ex-Giant showering Johnson with gifts (roses, jewelry and designer clothes), and the wanton obviousness of their affair: Johnson put a picture of Barber’s blue Maserati, with the caption “Boyfriends whip,” on her Facebook page last Sept. 5th. Barber bought the car in 2003, and a blurb on the Maserati website noted at the time: “Tiki is considered a model athlete, not only for his athletics, but for his clean living lifestyle.”
Barber’s affair has not only soiled his reputation; it could potentially spell the end of his working relationship with NBC. Barber’s $2 million contract with the network is coming close to expiration, and one NBC source told the Post, “he proved to be a disappointment on screen, and he has recently been used less and less. His contract is up for renewal soon, and this is a good excuse to get rid of him.”

Tiki is an Obama supporter. Oh well, he's too big to fail; Obama'll give the guy a bailout.

While he was playing he kept up the family man image. I wonder how much he squirreled away in secret accounts, that he’s now trying to protect.

I read a business article some time ago stating that approximately 70% of athletes declare bankruptcy within 5 years of retirement.College athletes with a reasonable expectation of going pro should be required to take a basic economics course. And be taught how to recognize bad (self serving) financial advisors.
My advice to them would be to buy a couple of well located apartment buildings while they are rolling in the big bucks. It may not make them richer, but it will feed them for life if things go south.

I don’t remember who, but one pro football owner begs his players to come to him to let him help them with their finances. He explains tax implications and investments. Only a few do but the others think it’s a ploy for him to take their money. Oh well.

Sorry about your all troubles. I would like to tell you a story though and maybe it will give you some encouragement, hope so.
After I decided to get a divorce from my husband (my son's step father) I sat and had a nice long talk with my 18 yo son. We have always been close because he only had me for so long. Well, during our talk and listening to him talk about how he knew he would not be able to sit around much longer and listen to the way my husband talked to me, I broke down and started crying....bawling was more like it. My son asked me what was so upsetting to me. I told him I was so sorry I had ever gotten him into the mess I had. I was sorry that he had to hear all of that and that he was subjected to as much emotional abuse as I had been.
My son said to me...”Mom, I don't look at it that way. I see how NOT to treat a woman, how NOT to treat my friends and how NOT to behave as a man”
I have never forgotten that.
