A friend of mine is flying for a group of media photogs in the Gulf of Mexico. He took these pics yesterday and emailed them to me. First few are his, taken with his iPhone, last few were taken by one of the press photog's using a digital camera.

"The pressure from this well are what caused the catastrophic equipment failure."

No. Ineptitude caused this problem.

OK, lets assume it's anything other than the idea of a pack of loons.

It would take longer to figure out exactly what size nuke you would have to use so you don't do more harm than good, where you would have to drill to to place the nuke, and drill the well in order to place the nuke, than it would take to just drill a relief well.

It would be much faster to just drill a relief well, cut into the existing casing, do a complete washover of the casing, cut and remove the old casing, and cement the well-bore from top to bottom.

...the ground is “brittle”, for lack of a better term. The nuke may cause a leak that you will never stop.

That's my understanding of why a nuke won't work to stop this leak.

"And if this isn't bad enough, Corexit 9500, the dispersant being used, is many times more damaging than the oil itself. Its highly toxic. At the temperatures in the Gulf waters this toxicity is magnified and turns into a gas that can be picked up by clouds and return to Earth as a toxic rain."

Ridiculous. It's simply a surfactant system.

"Insiders are now saying that there now may be only one way to stop this monster: Nuke it."

Ridiculous.

"Benzine - safe level = 0-4 parts per billion. What's been measured: 3,000 parts per billion. Metholine Chloride - safe level = 61 parts per billion. What's been measured: 3,400 parts per billion. "

If the source can't spell right, then the numbers are probably bad also. Yep, thought so... from the MSDS:

Airborne Exposure Limits:
Methylene Chloride (Dichloromethane):
- OSHA Permissible Exposure Limit (PEL) -
25 ppm (TWA), 125 ppm (STEL), 12.5 ppm (8-hour TWA - Action Level)
- ACGIH Threshold Limit Value (TLV) -50 ppm (TWA), A3 - suspected human carcinogen.

You can take it back to the source post and take it up with that poster. I’ll take it as it is ...

James Fox talks about the Private police in an interview with Veritas here. My father works for a meat supplier who is providing food for BP and he has told me of first hand accounts in south Mobile County of the private police he's personally encountered. (Who are you with? Who do you work for? kind of questions from people who clearly aren't local LEO). Boaters have been approached by people i the Bay who aren't Coast Guard or Local LEO with questions about who they are and where they're going. Suspicions are high to say the least. My relatives have also noted fleets of Chevron and BP helicopters everywhere in the area along with black vehicles marked "Disaster Recovery" in read that clearly aren't government owned.

The dispersal over homes is not nutty. In fact there was a protest you didn't get to see on the TV box yesterday in Orange Beach/Perdido Pass about the dispersant being sprayed in the middle of the night along the shoreline. I am in touch with the people that live there hourly and I can tell you there are strange goings on that aren't being reported on the news. I may not be a reputable news source and write fancy articles, but I do know what is happening with the people in Mobile and Baldwin Counties.

Nah. You presented the pile of rubbish, which you've taken as is. I just decided to mark it properly where it appeared.

What are they burning in that last picture? Is that another leak away from the BOP?

Thank you for posting these. How did he get to fly over the area? I know people that have tried and it WAS a no fly zone. Have they lifted it?

Sorry if you don't want to follow it, but this is what stays as far as I'm concerned ...

People need to know exactly what they're up against and these figures give it to them ... plus the fact that others are already reporting getting sick from these things, too, and I can also refer you to FReepers who have direct information on that...

Hydrogen Sulfide - safe level = 5-10 parts per billion.
What's been measured: 1,200 parts per billion.

Benzine - safe level = 0-4 parts per billion.
What's been measured: 3,000 parts per billion.

Metholine Chloride - safe level = 61 parts per billion.
What's been measured: 3,400 parts per billion.

You can also go to another FReeper in this thread, itself and read about it ... :-)

That was his statement, not mine ...

Maybe in his own personal experience, he finds that to be true ... but I seriously doubt he knows “all oilmen” ... :-)

He was also on Coast to Coast with Ian Punnett on Sunday night.

He was very credible IMHO, and indicated that things were far worse than we are being told.

If you read through the comments, you'll find that people are experiencing the problem over a much bigger area than just the farms mentioned in the article. The posters are mentioning two possibilities: the oil spill/dispersant and a local DuPont facility air borne chemical release. Someone uploaded a photo to show the damage done to a leaf:
