The only reference besides talking to family members (some of whom are sick from working fishing boats in the Gulf for BP) is the interview with Lindsay Williams on the dangers of the toxic gases being emitted into the atmosphere. List of links in this post. Also there's the reporting from boots on the ground in and around Grand Isle, LA by Jamie Fox. His interviews can be heard here.

The "layers" I speak of are numerous and the dots are easily connected if you are following the story. In a nutshell here's the list.

  1. The obvious black death inundating the shores of the Gulf Coast killing wildlife, fish, businesses, livelihoods, and property values.
  2. The fact there is really no way to STOP the spill. Containment is the only hope at this point unless we implement some yet unknown technology.
  3. The incontrovertible evidence of the toxic gases coming from the Earth's mantle being released into the air (see the reasons why BP is burning the gases from the well).
  4. The swirling conjecture that this geologic pressure may very well be much worse than an oil event. Hence the reluctance to use a nuke on the well.
  5. The media black out.
  6. The talks of coastal evacuations.
  7. The possible long term health effects from the toxins already released into the atmosphere.
  8. And lastly the darn near sureness of a hurricane carrying all this mess with it wherever it strikes the coast. This is not even to mention the overheating of the Gulf waters due to the black heat absorbing blanket that now covers it.
Feel free to add to the list.

The temporary flight restriction (TFR) over the Deepwater Horizon spill area only goes from sea level up to 3000 feet. If the plane was over 3000 feet, they were perfectly legal to fly over the spill. And I believe that it is legal to fly in the restricted area under 3000 feet *if* the plane’s filed a flight plan, gets permission from the government, and is under air traffic control.

The TFR was (allegedly) put in place to restrict the amount of low-flying non-spill-related planes and helicopters in the area and cut down the risk of a mid-air collision. If they wanted to really ban coverage of how bad the spill is, they’d have to extend the TFR above 3000 feet, up to, say, 18,000 feet (the maximum altitude you can fly without being under air traffic control) and they’d have to reroute any jet routes that fly over the area. And even then...how do you hide THAT?

Reporters have been arrested in LA, video cams confiscated

Got Links?

My understanding is that BP has made this a “no-fly” zone and the gov’t. goes along with it.

Could be that the area is extremely dangerous.
Gas pockets can knock-out airplane engines among other things.

Thanks... I’ll take a closer look at it... as it’s necessary to have some good references to this kind of stuff if we’re going to make that assertion to other people. They have to know it’s not simply gossip and rumor-mongering ...

"5.The media black out."

Since I cannot turn on the TV, radio, or computer without hearing about the blow out, I'd like to hear a little more about this "media blackout" of which you speak.

I see your point and I reckon it is simple gossip when I pass on to FReepers what family members on the coast are telling me. The dang press is being locked out and it’s hard to get more than anecdotal evidence from folks in the zone. Besides that I’m hopin’ mad, depressed, worried, and nervous as a whore in church. These are all things I don’t normally feel (I have no children). I might post off the cuff in these situations without fully thinking it through.

Some of the parts over the rigs were already no-fly zones. I pretty sure any NEW no-fly zones have little or nothing to do with the health of pilots. It has everything to do with appearances. However, reports from the ground suggest something weird is going on down there.

I understand and someone “can know absolutely” that something is true and know so from direct experience, too. But, then we can be easily dismissed on that basis, unfortunately (and it’s “maddening” sometimes, too ...).

But, I’ll guarantee you if that is widespread as you indicate it is, it won’t be long before there’s ample documentation. I would keep my eyes open for it and grab every piece that I could and assemble it together for us here on Free Republic.

Thanks for paying attention to this ... :-) And we all need to be paying close attention to this. It’s serious ...

Frightening pictures. Thanks for posting. After reading most of the posts on this thread, there is one undeniable fact. There’s a $hitload of oil down there that needs to be tapped into, extracted and refined. The right and safe way of course. The answer is not a drilling moratorium but “drill baby drill” in order to relieve the pressure and stop the leakage.

In the meantime, the Dutch skimmers and every other reasonable remedy should be used. They had a bunch of guys on Huckabee’s show with some viable solutions that could ADD to the effort of cleanup.

How many times have you heard the terms Benzene or Hydrogen Sulfide in these broadcasts? Have you once heard the possibility that this thing could NEVER be stopped? How about the protest yesterday about the planes spraying the dispersing chemical over coastal homes in the middle of the night? How 'bout the private police BP is running with the compliance of local governments? All you hear about are tar balls, business and tourism pains, Obama blaming BP, how dearly they're gonna pay, and the (yet unknown and much speculated) flow rate.

“When were they used before to seal leaks?

I can’t give you a source for the information, but I’ve seen it posted several times on oil spill threads, with links attached. “

The Soviets used a small nuke to plug a gas well, on dry land, many years ago. They drilled a bore next to the leaking well and detonated the nuke several thousand feet underground, effectively plugging the well bore. it’s on Youtube somewhere.

That will not work here as the ground is “brittle”, for lack of a better term. The nuke may cause a leak that you will never stop.

What I think is going to be interesting is that people are focusing on the oil becoming dispersed.

Consider that 10% of the crude are volatiles that evaporate nearly as soon as they surface.

It’s going somewhere. I wonder if that’s going to end up in the water cycle somehow in a significant way. That will be the interesting part.

The kicker is getting the nuke down hole past the BOP, If they can do that then they can run a packer and if they can do that then they can plug this thing and not need to try anything as dangerous as firing off a nuke downhole.

According to this Russian propaganda film, a shaft was drilled at an angle near the original pipe and the nuke was put into the new shaft. Start at about 16 seconds into the film to skip some sillyness.

You were saying ...

If you have people within 50 miles of the Gulf Coast (or you are yourself) you need to listen carefully about the toxins in the air. Benzine and Hydrogen Sulfide are not to be trifled with.

From another FReeper's post in the following thread ...

BP Official Admits to Damage BENEATH THE SEA FLOOR

His post is Post #183 ...

The following information comes from recent measurements from the EPS and NOAA:

The Deepwater Horizon was an ultra-deep well, meaning that the well itself drilled down to as far as 18, to 25,000 feet, nearly throw the Earths crust, we could every well have hit a strata of oil or a Bathetic of oil. Oil at those depths can reach levels of pressure of 70,000lbs psi. There is no technology known that can handle that pressure. Normal psi for a well is 1,500psi.

What this is doing is eroding the pipe and the surrounding area and digging a bigger fissure, much like if you stick a high-pressure hose in the ground, only in this case from the bottom up. This is causing other streams to open up, hence why we're seeing plumbs appearing miles away from the original rupture.

But that isn't the worst part. As bad as the oil is it is biodegradable. Along with the oil, deadly gases are escaping at the following unprecedented levels (from resent EPA measurements).

Hydrogen Sulfide - safe level = 5-10 parts per billion.
What's been measured: 1,200 parts per billion.

Benzine - safe level = 0-4 parts per billion.
What's been measured: 3,000 parts per billion.

Metholine Chloride - safe level = 61 parts per billion.
What's been measured: 3,400 parts per billion.

These gases can cause massive health effects ranging from shortness of breath to cancer to death. In fact, we've seen some surface workers hospitalized.

Insiders are now saying that there now may be only one way to stop this monster: Nuke it. However there is no guarantee that this wouldn't make matters even worse by opening up even a bigger rupture or creating multiple fissures in the sea floor.

If nothing at all is done, there is reason to believe this rupture will go on for years, possibly decades.

And if this isn't bad enough, Corexit 9500, the dispersant being used, is many times more damaging than the oil itself. Its highly toxic. At the temperatures in the Gulf waters this toxicity is magnified and turns into a gas that can be picked up by clouds and return to Earth as a toxic rain. This "death from above" precipitation may have the ability to destroy life from micro organisms up through the entire entire ecosystem. So the chemical "solution" to the hydrocarbon Extinction Level Event may turn out to be a localized environmental holocaust.

I really wish I had been wrong about this.

Formatted a slight bit differently than in the post, itself ...
