Sen. Kerry comes out against too quiet cars

U.S. Sen. John Kerry is trying to make sure hybrid and electric cars aren't too quiet.

Kerry is pushing a proposal aimed at helping protect blind pedestrians who rely on their hearing to safely cross streets.

The proposal would authorize the U.S. Secretary of Transportation to establish a minimum sound requirement for hybrid and electric vehicles to alert pedestrians to their approach.

The Senate Commerce Committee has passed the plan, which Kerry first introduced last year.

Oh no, the Department of automobile sounds will allow you to customize car sounds.

Like downloading tunes into your cell phone....But only pleasant animal sounds will be allowed.

For instance, as a funny gesture, a husband might elect to download hen squawking sounds into his wife's car.

The wife might want snorting pigs sounds, for her husbands cute little electric compact.

Yeah, there are lots of silent bicycles out there riding around. Can blind people hear them? They will certainly be injured if they walk out in front of one.

You could possibly substitute orangutans doing it, or others from the great ape family.

That’s the only thing I like about our Prius: it’s very quiet. My husband used to come home from work late, and you couldn’t hear him drive up our driveway. He wouldn’t wake the kids whose room was right above the driveway.
