US turned down Britain’s offer to help clean up BP oil rig spill
U.K. Times Online ^ | June 14, 2010 | Robin Pagnamenta, Energy Editor

A high-level British offer of help to clean up the Gulf of Mexico oil spill was rebuffed by America shortly after the accident, fuelling fresh fears of political tension between the two countries over the disaster. A few days after the BP-leased rig sank on April 22, the Cabinet Office made a direct offer to the US State Department to airlift half of Britain’s 1,200-tonne stockpile of chemical dispersants, The Times has learnt.

Why are we turning down help from those who probably know how to handle it?

Its all about giving the work to Union Jobs. There was a related story last week where the Dutch were turned down for the same reason.

The more I hear of other countries’ offers to help with the oil cleanup soon after it started, the more I believe Obama wants to milk this crisis for his own gain. It’s not surprising that we’re hearing more about Tax & Cap following this disaster.

This is just NUTS. I may not watch tomorrow night, just view a running commentary thread here at FR.

Wonder how ‘sir paul’ feels now? Actually, I don’t care.
I know how I feel and there is no way this clown can continue for 2.5 more years. There won’t be anything left of us...

Obama Blocking Oil Skimmers!

So the truth comes out! President Obama is once again putting the interests of the unions that support him above the interests of our nation! He has not signed granted a waiver of the Jones Act to allow more oil skimming boats into our waters to clean up this mess.

The Merchant Marine Act of 1920 is a United States Federal statute that regulates maritime commerce in U.S. waters and between U.S. ports. Section 27, also known as the Jones Act, deals with coastal shipping and requires that all goods transported by water between U.S. ports be carried in U.S.-flag ships, constructed in the United States, owned by U.S. citizens, and crewed by U.S. citizens and U.S. permanent residents.

During times of national emergency, the President can grant a waiver of the Jones Act. As this video shows, we have been offered help from foreign countries with ships capable of skimming more oil off the water, but have so far refused this help because Obama would rather protect his union buddies.

Acquiring existing dispersants for free from the UK does not compare with hefty new purchases of dispersants from George Soros.

Obama's antipathy to Great Britain has been evident "since day one" of his administration (lousy gifts, etc.).

Kenyans hate Great Britain.

Never fix a crisis until a huge crisis comes from it, then declare martial law..

This is willful malfeasance in my opinion. If any corporation had acted in the manner that this Administration had, there would be criminal indictments. This is looking to be more and more like deliberate and willful negligence on the part of the Obama Administration.

I think it’s intentional. I think the Administration wanted all of the responsibility and the consequences to fall on BP.

Apparently, some Union members don’t want others muscling in on their territory....the EPA’s rules and regs are also hurting the clean up....Obama is refusing to ‘lift’ the Jones Act which has little or nothing to do with the current crisis. The Unions were mentioned last week as objecting...bet you haven’t heard from that bunch since.
