A new Washington Post/ABC News poll includes questions about the tea parties that have the nascent movement's popularity slipping badly. Overall, since the last poll, the percentage of Americans who hold an unfavorable view of the movement has jumped from 39 percent to 50 percent. The leading edge of that has been a collapse in support from 18-29-year-olds. In March, they had a positive, 43-38 view of the tea parties. They've swung hard to a negative view, 27-60.
One result that surprises me: a seeming tumble in tea party support from white Southerners. In March, only 30 percent had an unfavorable view of the movement. Now, it's 45 percent.
I don't think this is really a sign of anti-incumbent anger ending -- the results on voter views of incumbents dispel that notion. Since the last poll, however, we have had two months of news about tea party-identified Republicans winning their primaries or leading in them, which has started to diminish the independent brand of the movement.

That’s hugh!!
We’ll remember,
In November
(I’ve been trying to make the tune of “See You in September” with replacement lyrics fit the situation, but so far, I’ve failed.)
All this anti-tea pary negativity expressed by Democrat-run media. They’re only contriving these polls with the hope that they can break up the tea party movement before November. Just look at the behavior of the SEIU, ACORN, celebrities like Bill Maher, Behar, Jon Stewart, etc....Major criticsm coming from just about every sector of broadcast media. Why do the media types get all worked up over an allegedly dying movement, hmmm? Does this look like a movement that’s about to collapse?? Would SEIU and other media-types conspire so persistenly to keep tea party negatives on the front page or the top story if it really was a movement that was collapsing?? Watch what the media does -— not what they say. I’m sure the liberal partisans in the media will do whatever they feel is necessary to help collapse the t.p. movement, but that doesn’t actally mean that the movement is collapsing -— on the contrary, the t.p. movement is getting stronger and more popular every day. I’m seeing a regular increase in membership at the meeting place I go to in New Jersey every month. So, just let the msm go on playing ‘let’s pretend’ for the next 5 months, it’s make victory in November all the more sweet.
Agreed. As long as Rand Paul is the new face of the Tea Party, I’ll have nothing to do with it. And I’d been to three rallies before L Ron Jr. came along and hijacked the movement.
November 2nd may be fun, but I am genuinely fearing the 3rd. Assuming the Dems lose both houses, which I think is a real possibility, I hesitate to think what they’ll pass from November 3 - January 20.
We are like hornets.
Leave us alone and you will only see one or two of us at any time.
Stir us up and WATCH OUT!
We are always ready but not always aggressive as a whole.
No, RINO's have nothing in common with me. I want conservative Republicans on the ballot, not libertarians. Ron Paul is a libertarian. Rand Paul seemingly once believed the same type of things. He has changed his tune on some issues to win the primary, but his previous opinions when he was supporting his Dad were something completely different.
I also want nothing to do with Paulbots. We know the Paul's have a cult like following which skews straw polls and now perhaps can generate enough name recognition and buzz to win real nomination fights. The problem is, libertarianism is not what Republican general election voters want - nor is it an acceptable ideology to the great mass of the American electorate.
We are the Republican Party, not the Libertarian Party. Most people viewed the Tea Party as a sort of conservative moment - NOT an offshoot of the Libertarian Party. The minute the Tea Party is viewed as a bunch of Libertarians its popularity will wane. Americans are not Libertarians. Americans will not vote for Libertarians.
the Posts sample shows 34% Democrats, 25% Republicans, and 38% independents among the registered voters in this survey of the general adult population
First of all, this is of questionable credibility given its source. Secondly, even if the MSM smear job has fewer people wanting to be associated with the Tea Party movement, will it change how they vote? In other words, are the independents returning to the traditional political parties? I doubt it.
“...and don’t most independents usually vote liberal?”
####
Probably.
As “independents” they are:
a) without foundational, bedrock, unchanging values.
b) primping themselves as “open-minded”, after all they are cool and you know...independent.
c) too progressive and hip to adhere to traditional party labels, or for that matter, such mundane things as patriotism and religion.
In short, “independents”, my ass.
They will see a tsunami of outraged citizens descend upon Washington if they do.
Large enough to make them fear for their lives.
To paraphrase Jefferson -
they NEED to be in fear for their lives
if they govern against the will of the people.
Otherwise, there will be tyranny.
POll taken among “National Adults”. Not likely or even registered voters. It doesn’t get more inaccurate then this.
So called “Independents” are just liberal Democrats who are too wussified to even admit that they are liberal Democrats. Every “Independent” I’ve ever asked always votes Democrat.
When was there any support among the young for sensible things? Ask them after a few years of the Obama economy how happy they are with liberals?
Wishful thinking, my posterior.
When you don’t like the truth, lie. Lie big !
Worked for Hitler, why not that beacon of truth and light, the Washington Post ?
And if there was any change, could it be from the constant propaganda pounding folks who watch the MSM get ?
Independents are chknsht socialist/democrats,
just like agnostics are chknsht atheists.
