This morning, Bob Beckel appeared on the Fox News Channel to comment upon Helen Thomas' recent rabidly anti-Semitic remarks about Israel and Jews. To my astonishment, Beckel defended Thomas' remarks as "part of the free speech we Americans enjoy." When asked if Thomas should be fired by Hearst, Beckel went on to say that that was up to Hearst, but that the First Amendment guaranteed her the right to slander Jews and Israel while she worked as Grand Dam of White House reporting/commentary. I don't know whether Beckel is also a Jew hater or that he is incapable of criticizing a fellow Liberal. Either way, his opinions are now officially worthless.
Even for Beckel, this was a stretch. I have emailed Beckel about this and await his reply.
Could it be that Helen Thomas felt safe saying these things because she knew that she was speaking for her President and her colleagues in the presscorps?
If Helen had said “ the blacks should go back to Africa” would the comment be the same?

Beckel is useless, but he is right- she has the right to say it. And we have the right to reject and berate her.
Forgive my ignorance, I spent most of the past three days helping to host a wine and beer bash for 80,000 of my closest friends, and have had little time to peruse the media (visual, audio or print) for this incident, much past what I heard of the senile old witch this morning.
My question is, has any of this gotten to the Lame-Stream Media? Most of the references I’ve seen here are to FNC, whom I would expect to cover it, as well as on Conservative talkers on the radio (KSFO in SF, Glenn Beck, etc.) It seems that as long as the LSM keep their usual stranglehold on the truth coming out about their fellow travelers, the average American, INCLUDING about 70% of the American Jews, will never hear of HT giving us her true feelings about the Jews.
There's a goofy little song called "Waltzing With Bears" I was playing for my grandson. I now wonder if it refers to Uncle Walter's pro Soviet leanings!
To say that you probably couldn't trust his judgment on just about anything is an understatement.
When Beckel appears on the Hannity show, I turn the dial. He is a gross, sullen, bitter pig of a leftist whose sole gig seems to be the income he receives from Fox for his regular appearances as a pundit.
I'm sure Fox assigns Beckel to the Hannity show. Hannity is a pretty straight-up Catholic boy.....either he's forced to accept the obscenity known as Beckel, or he's friends with him.
I never have been able to decide what the real story is.
If a conservative pundit had the squalid-sex background of Beckel, he would never work in television again.

Bob Beckel’s an asshole. He doesn’t recognize evil when he sees it. If it was a conservative instead of Helen Thomas, he’d be perfectly happy to see their job taken away from them. He’s a typical Democrat: someone devoid of a moral compass who resorts to sophistries when confronted by obvious meanness and evil.

Why is Helen Thomas entitled to a protection that other Americans are not? Because she’s a member of a overwhelmingly Democratic press corps? Are we two countries now, with one standard for the Washington elites, and another for everyone else? It’s a purely rhetorical question, I know the answer.
