Van Der Sloot Faces 'Extremely Rude Awakening' in Peruvian Jail

Joran van der Sloot, the lone suspect in the disappearance of Alabama teen Natalee Holloway in Aruba , faces an "extremely rude awakening" in Peru, where he has just been jailed as a suspect in the murder of a young Peruvian woman, a top international lawyer said today.

The 22-year-old once again is suspected of murder. "The conditions of incarceration at best will be overcrowded and uncomfortable, and more likely can be described as deplorable and intolerable," said Philadelphia-based defense attorney Theodore Simon, whose clients have included Ira Einhorn, who was extyradited from France to face murder charges; Alain Robert , the "French Spiderman" known for climbing skyscrapers; fight promoter Don King and Robert Durst, the heir to the New York real estate fortune.

"The most basic requirements will be in question -- and the basic services," he said. "So I think it's going to be an incredible shock to his system, the circumstances of his incarceration."

.

I think an Alabama prison would have accelerated Joran’s social education

Much like prisons have for several other perverted serial killers

But then OJ seems to have set himself up years later

Both OJ and Joran thought they were untouchable

It would not surprise me at all for the Peruvians to extract some helpful info for the Holloway family - as Nat’s father and step-dad might say to the murdered girl’s father, “What’s a little waterboarding among friends?”

I bet it was an incredible shock to his victim’s system when her neck got snapped.

Who cares if this is uncomfortable and a shock for Joran?

I don’t know if he planned to kill this girl or if he just lured her to his room and then got fresh ( rough) and in her attempt to refuse his advances he gave her a shove..
He has a bad history, nevertheless. His actions in Aruba were of a kid who got away with gambling when he was too young to even be in a bar, drinking etc..a real playboy type who was enabled by his father. Earlier in the Aruba thing Joran’s mother looked really distressed at this whole thing. I don’t know how she lives with herself knowing what she must know. I wonder if since the death of Palus, if she moved back to the Netherlands.

Too bad the Aruba officials didn’t follow-up on Van der sloot. In Peru, he will finally face justice. Karma is not a good thing when its bad karma.

Wow, maybe there really is a thing called karma.

The little sh*t who got away with murder becuase of the high government connections of his father will suffer more for the same reason.

Yeah, he was wired a good amount of money from Alabama from Natalie’s mother. He faces exhortion charges from the FBI for exhorting money from Beth Holloway in exchange for telling her where Natalie’s body is. He then took that money and took a little vacation to Peru.

In that case there was a ton of evidence that directly implicated OJ in the double murder. The jury just chose to ignore it.

Don't forget that OJ had the help of a couple of clowns prosecuting the case and a cartoon character of a judge.

I watched the video. I heard the word “putta” which means b-—h. He will have a nasty reception when he goes to prison !

Puta means female sexual organ and prostitute. “hijo de puta” “son of a whore” is an insult, which might have been what they were shouting. Don’t know much espanol either, so this is not authoritative.

I thought I recognized your diminutive violinist. I saw him perform Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto. Quite the experience. Too bad he died so young.

I work in the juvenile justice system and believe me, they are much smarter than you give them credit for. First of all, they will try things that you couldn’t even imagine, secondly, they will cover for each other until they themselves become implicated....then they sing.

I have no doubt about this at all. But in looking at the Holloway case, there hasn't been any credible evidence found that implicated any of the suspects, and neither Van Der Sloot nor the Kalpoe brothers have implicated one another. I just find it hard to believe that 3 drunk teens were able to pull off the "perfect" murder, leave absolutely no evidence that could possibly link them to the crime, and not implicate one another in the process.

Can you explain why you think that?

See my post 35 for my version of the events.

I cite the fact that the police in Aruba were not able to find any credible evidence whatsoever that linked the suspects to the crime.

Why does that disturb you?

Because we are supposed to have guaranteed rights as a person accused of a crime.

They weren’t held any long period of time.

And that makes it OK? Should the police in the USA be allowed to round up people here with no credible evidence, and as long as these people are not held for a long period of time, it is OK?

Bringing suspects in for questioning multiple times is not unheard of here.

There's also a huge legal difference between the police simply asking questions, and arresting someone and throwing them in jail. The most notable thing of course being that if the police have to talk to someone, it is because they lack the evidence necessary to make an arrest.

As far as credible evidence goes, the statements made by the perps was plenty credible.

First, if this was the case, why wasn't anything made of the "evidence?" Secondly, in most western jurisdictions, a confession alone is not strong enough to win a conviction, any confession must also be tied to other hard evidence that links the suspect to the crime.

Wouldn’t have bothered me if they had beat the truth out of them

I'd have no problem with that approach if these people were terrorists who had knowledge of a terrorist act that is about to take place, but these are suspects in a crime that has already been committed. That sense of urgency simply isn't there. And of course in the USA, if a cop lays a hand on a suspect, the suspect walks.

“I do think that she was sold, but I also think there were adults on Aruba who knew what happened and who part of the coverup.”

Thus, the remark from Paulus that there “is no body.” The “confession” to the journalist in the car was a cover-up. I don’t think Joran would have disobeyed his father and told the truth...to anyone. I think she’s in South America, also.
