(Reuters) - The government has launched a criminal probe into BP Plc's (BP.L) massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, Attorney General Eric Holder said on Tuesday.

Federal agencies, including the FBI, are participating in the probe and "if we find evidence of illegal behavior, we will be forceful in our response," Holder told reporters after meeting with state and federal prosecutors in New Orleans.

We will have to endure the pollution of the airways by endless commercials aired by law firms trolling for new “class action” clients whose “lives were destroyed by the negligence & horror of the BP oil leak”.

These bottom feeder lawyers ads will be around long after all of the oil has been reclaimed, recovered, evaporated, eaten by bacteria, etc.

If I were a “good old boy” with a trawler in the Gulf, I’d be out with a boom, a big centrifugal pump and a garbage scow barge just raking in all that black gold. Then I’d send FEMA & BP bills for expenses of the cleanup effort (hey, someone might pay up :-) ).

Finally, I’d sell the oil, laughing all the way to the bank.

I would love for a BP whistleblower to come out and discuss greased palms and campaign contributions....

BP should just walk away and publicly announce that it’s Obama’s baby now. See how the politics of that one works out.

That's what I would do.

I believe it is Kevin Costner that has an oil cleanup invention that cleans sea water -

but they can’t get the OK from the gov’t to do it.

Obama has given the green-light to have DOJ, the States, and liability lawyers the US governmentbankrupt take over and dismember BP

“if we find evidence of illegal behavior, we will be forceful in our response,”

Like the club wielding thugs at the polling place?

Like the bribe to keep a congressman from running against Specter?

Has Obama returned the almost $1 million in campaign contributions from BP yet?

This should help clean up the oil spill......except it won’t.

Good to know the Obama admin has its priorities straight.....no boom and sand bags for the gulf coast, but they have plenty of time to sick the lawyers on BP.

This is, on a lower level (so far), exactly what Stalin and other communist leaders did. Charge engineers and executives with crimes.

Exactly. If I’m BP, I look at all my legal obligations, and then move my operations out of the U.S., and say “to hell with you”, we will focus on drilling elsewhere and make a transition to selling oil to the Chinese. Like filing for bankruptcy, just say “sorry, there’s nothing we can do, we’re done, have fun plugging the hole, daddy”.

In response to problems, Obama and his administration litigate and manipulate. They know little else.

They have no idea how to produce things or correct problems.

Surely all of you understand that they wish to nationalize the oil companies, hence “state owned oil”. They can charge how ever much they want per gallon and collect lots of tax dollars.

"BP should just walk away and publicly announce that it’s Obama’s baby now. See how the politics of that one works out."

This is what's happening whether he likes it or not. Two people I adore who are (not party-line) Democrats both said that they thought, at this point, this was now Bobo's "fault", and that they would not be voting for him in 2012, plain and simple.

Not that I could get them to vote for Palin (it's a state she'll carry anyway) but that Bobo has "greatly disappointed" them. I could hardly contain my glee -- which was immediately tempered with my love of the Gulf Coast and the people there.
