The news that some conservative critics were exacting their pound of flesh from a Democratic president for not laying a wreath this year at Arlington National Cemetery certainly was a reach, especially after the White House revealed that Vice President Joe Biden was going to Arlington -- and that the commander-in-chief would pay his respects at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Ill.
You are overrating their power. If they are that powerful than every President ad every Congress shall be a left wing liberal. They win some and they lose some, it is that simple.
Actually, this is a positive thing. A speech from Obama proclaiming his appreciation of our veterans is not an uplifting prospect.
Memorial day, and any speeches observing it, should be for the purpose of honoring our honored military dead, not for using them as props for political posturing by those who despise them and what they sacrificed for.
than=then
Bush 41 didn’t attend one year - he was ill. But the VP took his place.
Bush 43 & Laura attended each year. They love the military.
I know for I worked in DC as a volunteer Arlington Lady.
Thanks for clarifying the Bush history!
Yes of course, all those plummeting viewership numbers for the Liberal news nets, the disappearing circulation of the print media, the failure of their "flagship" radio station, Air America, the failure of Newsweek and the skyrocketing numbers of the "Fair and Balanced" FNC, are simply coincidences.
Send me some of that shit you're smokin'
Don't worry. When the time comes, 0bama (the taxpayers) will bail out the liberal media.
They have to get some laws in place first(some version of either the 'fairness doctrine', 'net neutrality', or both) but the media is "whithering on the vine" because most people do not trust them.
My problem is the huge expenditure of having the ceremony somewhere he didn’t have to be.
{sarcasm on}
He doesn’t need to be there cause no troops will die in a war under his watch...
now they might die in a ‘police action’ or a ‘man-made event’ action, but not in a ‘war’ {sarcasm off}
When WAS the last time 0bama went to Iraq or AfgPak to say hi and eat with the troops? Anyone?
I have friends and relatives at rest in Arlington. I don’t want their memories, rest, dignity and remains infected by this contemptuous creep. He doesn’t deserve to share such hallowed ground with real Americans.
I happen to be a veteran and it’s not a big deal to me. You both could have easily found that out with one click.
We already know what his priorities are. This little incident is equal to a button off my shirt. If this is all our side has to whine about then we don’t have anything to whine about. Petty bullship.
Tradition is important in any nation. Just as it is in a family. It is glue and bond and it becomes an expectation.
Placing a wreath on Memorial Day at our largest National Cemetary is incredibly important to many of us.
Because of the deep seated suspicion many of us have that uhbama is a phony-a man who hates us and our culture and traditions-it is maybe ESPECIALLY important that he get his sorry black and white ass in gear and start doing the RIGHT THING!
Thanks for your service but....you don’t get to decide what is a “big deal” to me.
Having the CinC honor the war dead at our National War Cemetery when we are at war, is a big deal to me. I can only imagine it is a big deal to the families of those killed by terrorists at home and abroad, especially on his watch.
Perhaps you didn’t notice that I also served in the Marine Corps. You’re welcome for that service as well.
Tomorrow, I will spend the entire morning as part of a detail from my American Legion post, Joseph Newton Smith Post #83 of Lincoln, New Hampshire providing honors at about a dozen cemeteries and other sites in 4 different towns here in central NH. If the president had decided to come to one of these places instead of being at Arlington, don’t you think it would be a big deal? All the heroes are not buried at Arlington. I’ve been to Arlington several times. I’m not sure I want to go any more because the place is befouled by the putrifying remains of Ded Kennedy which I find appalling.
I’m glad the president isn’t coming here because he’s worse than useless, but if he or any other president did decide to come here, I would like to see him be with us at the last stop we make. It is a single unmarked grave. The only way to know it is a grave is the flag holder and flag that we place there every year. Nobody even remembers any more the man’s name or how he happened to be there but he deserves just as much honor as any other deceased veteran.
To make a big deal out of Obama’s taking a pass on Arlington this time and trying to use it to convince others of just how bad a president and person he is because of his doing this is just folly and picking this as a battle will not convince anyone to change his position on Obama’s value or lack of it. Let’s pick another battle. There are many better ones to choose from.
Who wants his un-American presence on our hallowed ground?
He has no idea what it means to BE an American.
I just read on another thread about what you gracious comforters offer the families of the fallen. I had no idea.
Thank you for YOUR service.
