I took a break from work, and watched the live feed for a minute. I either just saw the whole thing entirely blow out, or BP is implementing LMRP or hot tap right now.
Specifically, I saw a HUGE rain of white clumps and particles which are either foam-like objects used in a junk shot or methane hydrates.
Then all of the water within the camera view got very, very dark. When I looked more closely, I could make out the outline of massive jet-black plumes of oil rising from below the camera.
At least as of right now (6:00 pm Pacific Standard Time), if you look at the live video feed below, you can see what I mean.
This is either very, very bad, or BP has abandoned the top kill/junk shots altogether and is in the middle of surgery where it has already cut off sections of the BOP and/or riser, and is trying to cap it off with a sealing grommet.

Because BP pulled this going cheap crap, don't you think something needs to be corrected in their case. I am a "Drill Now" person, but I also know chances have been taken in the industry because of money.
It is not right that all of the oil industry will be made to suffer because of BP's screw up, but perception is everything to the general public.
What do you think the perception is right now to the people unfamiliar (most) with the oil industry?
Obummer, enviro-nuts and the Rats will have a field day hurting the oil industry, as a whole, because of BP's negligence.
Well they aren’t using ours. Trust me, I was “the environmental go to guy” for the “chemical” company. The toxicity studies were in place ... had to be or you couldn’t even transport the stuff. But I haven’t got a clue about what they are using now. My guess is the media hype about the “chemicals” will shut down dispersant applications ... probably the ONLY thing that could save the day at this point. Ah well, glad I’m retired now. Not my problem. Enjoy.
??? What do you mean you don’t understand what it means? Freeper mylife, said there were no lobster in the Gulf. He was 100% wrong, I told him to man up and admit.
If I didn’t know any better, I’d say the flume being monitored at the end of the string of pipe is now much more mud colored with less black oil ejecting and at a slower rate. That plume would have to be completely mud for a column of mud to begin forming inside the pipe and backing down the well.
Promising?
Whether the well can hold together without further damage and keep a mud column in place is yet to be seen but even the restricted flow now is better an open well head.
Nope ... am safely retired. Just PO’d me to see all that work we had done be “dissed by dummies” like Scarboro and Mika on MSNBC. Who haven’t got a “clue” what a dispersant is or how it works and why it WORKS WELL! Hours and Hours to SAVE the environment if something bad happened ... and because of IGNORANCE, all that work didn’t matter, did it? Ignorance is so frustrating. We’ve certainly got an abundance of it these days. Lots of people who DO NOT know what they are talking about ... talking, talking, talking. I’m going fishing.
They've made everyone look bad flyin' w/Capt. Bligh 'tude, time they got put of the ship into the little boat.
On the other hand (..5 fingers?), it could part of some uber evil greenie weenie plan.
They've been in league with the green devils since even before the days of "Beyond Petroleum", anyone remember?
Texas is the bellwether for wind energy production. The entire swath of the great, windy prairies could be the powerhouse for the entire nation with the right sort of infrastructure development. More power to them literally.
Is that energy added directly to the grid? How has this added capacity affected utility and energy costs?

Let’s be accurate. Obama got more money from people who are (or were) employed by BP. BP itself - the corporate entity or its PAC - gave no money to Obama at all.
How long has this kind of slipshod regulation been going on with the oil industry? How many other of those 3400 rigs in the Gulf were signed off on with expedited permits? How many wells actually get approved by “standard operating procedure” anymore?
And isn’t getting rid of government regulation, stepping aside to let business do its job, part of the push for smaller government?
You can’t have it both ways. Obama and Bush both, in order to meet public demand to drill and produce more oil more quickly, approved drilling in a posthaste fashion. Everybody except the Greenies thought that this slashing of regulations was a great thing. Now that there’s been a disaster - because of the industry’s own impatient cutting of safety procedures- everyone is angry that the regs were bypassed.
Two months ago, everyone wanted drilling off-shore to be approved even MORE quickly, for the wells to be up and producing yesterday. Cutting corners was a good thing! It was getting rid of government interference.
What exactly is it Americans want? Because they can’t have it all.
Yes this would be added or available to the grid. I don’t know how the contracts are set or who the owners are. I’m not on a power company in the Texas grid [ERCOT] so don’t know how their rates compare. One problem or need is transmission facilities to bring some of the available areas into play.
Ha!!! With any luck the entire gulf becomes a vast pool of oil and all the nations around can feel free to try to pump it dry, destroying the arabs grip on oil for a long time???!!! And the enviro nuts pull there gerbils out for a looong time.
Bowrama has spoken, now he’s got a party to plan for Paul McCartney. All he cares about is he got his photo shoot.
You know if all that oil were in the refinery stream gas would be dirt cheap by now!
Totally agree about the transmission facilities. Our electrical grid is going to be pounded by demand as we move from an oil-based to electrical-based technology. It’s already strained to the breaking point - the Northeast Blackout of 2003 was only a foretaste.
That’s one spending program I can get behind on a Federal level. Apply the same strategy of defense spending to the power grid that Ike applied to the Interstate Highway System.
This well flowed from a much higher zone weeks before the blowout occurred. They lost circulation on the danged thing three times and stuck pipe once to the point that they could not free it and had to reroute around it.
FIT's were done but no leak offs in every case! Does this sound like they were really paying attention?
I agree with you Cajun! This has nothing whatever to do with the current state of drilling technology but it sure as hell has a lot to do with the lack of judgment those home office types who were in constant communication with the BP company man displayed! It also, sadly, speaks to the state of affairs in our economy today. I remember a time, not so long ago, when if some REMF had come up with this BS the company man, not to speak of the rig manager, would have told him that if he wanted it done that way he had better get his A$$ on a chopper and come do it himself cause we ain't about to do it like that!
