I always wondered that, my assumption was that it was similiar to the no pictures of Mohammad thing, thanks for taking the time to explain, I sincerely appreciate it.

This picture came a Facebook group I’m on, from
“Flaunt the Flag” day—he sent it to the group set of photos from that day where people showed how they ‘flaunted the flag’ on May 12th.. I thought I’d written down his name, but I can’t find it. I’ll have to go back and look.

Either someone did that to make a statement or it was an error. Many newspapers will have a flag logo next to the name of a veteran’s obit. Maybe someone mistakenly put it there (i.e., the “U.S. Flag” and symbol was stored in HTML and
cut and pasted there...?)_
To: raccoonradio
It’s not a copy and paste; the page is generated with queries looking like “FROM obituaries SELECT WHERE date=(today)” that return “name, age, image, article, etc.” from which the piece of html is generated. The generator code could have a bug, the data input (editor’s side) could have a bug, or somebody simply added that register.

His name is Greg Thomas. I don't know his rank, but I believe he is in the Army.
