Maybe he doesn't like the sound of hundreds of thousands of motorcycle riding freedom-fighters roaring through the streets of D.C. all day and night for four days?
Barack Obama is turning his back on the Vietnam veterans of Rolling Thunder who will gathering in Washington, D.C. this Memorial Day weekend for their 23rd annual demonstration to remind the nation of those servicemembers still missing or held as prisoners of war.
In addition to skipping out on his duties at Arlington National Cemetery so he can vacation at the family mansion in Chicago, Obama will be cancelling what, under President George W. Bush, had become a traditional meeting at the White House between Rolling Thunder and the administration.
Last year, after initially rebuffing the veterans group, the Obama administration invited Rolling Thunder at the last minute for a low-key meeting that Obama dropped in on.
Even though Obama toyed with them, Rolling Thunder released a gracious statement praising Obama and his wife for their attention given to veterans and military families.
This year, according to Jennifer Harper's Inside the Beltway column at the Washington Times, the Obama White House has frozen out Rolling Thunder completely. No meeting with staffers, no sit down with Vice President Joe Biden who is remaining in Washington, no nothing.
I wonder if Obama will pal around this weekend with his Chicago neighbor and friend Bill Ayers, the terrorist whose group, the Weather Underground, plotted to murder soldiers at Fort Dix with a massive nail bomb during the Vietnam War.
I have a photo of Rumsfeld hanging out with the Rolling Thunder taken by my daughter on Memorial Day when we had a real President.
What is your evidence for the claim that Reagan, Bush SR. and Bush Jr. didn’t attend every Memorial Day at Arlington? I saw Reagan there and I remember Bush Jr. going what seemed to be every year.
Thank you for bringing attention to this Kristinn.
0dumbo couldn’t make it any clearer that he disdains anyone who might not have voted for him.
The only rolling thunder Obama hears in when Michelle’s thighs rub together when she walks. How’s that war on child obesity coming Michelle? Too bad your mamma didn’t have those guidelines when you were growing up and you may want to skip the drawn butter for your lobster. Don’t expect too much respect for the military from the muslim in chief. Hopefully in 2014 we can be done with the “piece” and his thug/inept administration.
Glad he won’t be there since i know he hates to honor us in any way. He should be banned from ever entering the gates of Arlington.
ROFLMAO-- A real coffee-spewer, that!
Has some nice pics of 43 with the Rolling Thunder gents.
yes, i was there in 2007. W also overflew the group a couple of times as we gathered in the Pentagon Parking lot for the start of the memorial day parade.
“...He should be banned from ever entering the gates of Arlington...”
Agree fully...I’m a Vietnam vet, My dad was a WWII vet...My uncle was KIA on Iwo...
This so-called “man” who occupies the White House has insulted ALL veterans, both living and deceased...This is truly a shameful time in an otherwise glorious American history...Our country is in peril because of people like Obama...
I didn’t vote for the scumbag.
They probably think they've made enough progress to allow them to drop that part of the facade.
HAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!
LOLOLOLOLOL!
I'm sure the 0b0z0s hold the sheets tightly before the volcano erupts!
I'm sure this is their interpretation of the "Catch and Release" policy.
I was once asked a very stupid question by a young man
I refused to answer it. Why?
I told him, “it’s a Vet thing, I couldn’t explain it and you wouldn’t understand if I tried.”
Better to think of this as Bammy giving US a vacation.
At this time in American History, Nam Vets represent the largest group of America’s wartime veterans. While not approaching the vast numbers of vets from WW2,the Nam era had over 3 million servicemen and women serve in country from 63 to 73. If you count those in Thailand, the Philippines, Korea, and Yankee Station the numbers may go as high as 4 million. They were volunteers, draftees, regulars, some Guardsmen and some Reservists. They represent a cross section of America, then and now.To treat them with such disrespect is an abysmal performance by the CiC.But Obama sees the world through the red prism of his mentors in Hawaii, NYC. Cambridge, and Chicago. For them Vietnam isa crime and their work to end it is the great moment of their lives. Ignoring the vets of that war is Obama’s way of showing respect to his mentors.
Just another instance of Zero “bringing us all together.”
