At the FReeper Canteen!
C'mon and take a break ! Walk on over to the water cooler and lets chat. Post your thoughts, opinions, news of the day, rantings, ravings, pontificates, hypothesis, hyperboles, your soap box cause, your mantra, your baggage, your garbage, your blogging, your secrets, whatever you feel would make talk around the water cooler real interesting!
Please remember that The Canteen is here to support and entertain our troops and veterans and their families, and is family friendly.

A little humor....
The Restaurant
A group of 40 year old girlfriends discussed where they should meet for dinner. Finally it was agreed upon that they should meet at the Ocean View Restaurant because the waiters there had tight pants and nice buns.
10 years later at 50 years of age, the group once again discussed where they should meet for dinner. Finally it was agreed that they should meet at the Ocean View Restaurant because the food there was very good and the wine selection was good also.
10 years later, at 60 years of age, the group once again discussed where they should meet for dinner. Finally it was agreed that they should meet at the Ocean View Restaurant because they could eat there in peace and quiet and the restaurant had a beautiful view of the ocean.
10 years later, at 70 years of age, the group once again discussed where they should meet for dinner. Finally it was agreed that they should meet at the Ocean View Restaurant because the restaurant was wheel chair accessible and they even had an elevator.
10 years later, at 80 years of age, the group once again discussed where they should meet for dinner. Finally it was agreed that they should meet at the Ocean View Restaurant because they had never been there before.

*Farmers Cheese*
Things You'll Need: 2 quarts Whole Milk 2 cups Buttermilk 1 tbsp. White Vinegar Salt Colander or Strainer Clean Cheesecloth Heavy Pot Large Pot or Bowl Storage Container with Lid
Put 2 quarts of milk in a large pot and bring it to 180 degrees over low heat, stirring frequently. (Use candy thermometer, this will take some time as to not scorch the milk)
Add 2 cups of buttermilk and stir, then add the vinegar and stir. Turn off the heat and stir slowly until the mixture starts to separate.
Let it sit for 10 minutes. Do not disturb the mixture during this time. While waiting, line a colander with at least two layers of rinsed cheesecloth.
Using a large spoon or ladle, put the curds (the solids) into the cheesecloth-lined colander. I added salt at this time.
Let the curds drain for at least an hour. Occasionally gather up the cheesecloth around the cheese to apply some pressure to the cheese to help it drain. You can also tie the cheese up in the cheesecloth to keep pressure on it.
Transfer the cheese to a storage container and store covered in the refrigerator for up to five days. This recipe yeilds about one pound of cheese.
I saw Anthony Bourdain have farmers cheese with honey on crackers & tried it....delish!
You can use this cheese in many applications, pierogies, crepes & anything you would use ricotta for.
Pressed & drained further it can be used on mexican food dishes as a queso fresco.
Mix it with 8 oz cream cheese, garlic & your favorite herbs to make boursin cheese.

It is beautiful with all the lawns turning green and all the trees getting new leaves. A nice rain would be nice tho.
Sounds like a lethal combination. Good luck, and try to stay cool.

Good morning to everyone at the Canteen.

Golf Joke Ed and Dorothy met while on a singles cruise and Ed fell head over heels for her. When they discovered they lived in the same city only a few miles apart Ed was ecstatic. He immediately started asking her out when they got home.
Within a couple of weeks, Ed had taken Dorothy to dance clubs, restaurants, concerts, movies, and museums. Ed became convinced that Dorothy was indeed his soul mate and true love. Every date seemed better than the last. On the one-month anniversary of their first dinner on the cruise ship, Ed took Dorothy to a fine restaurant.
While having cocktails and waiting for their salad, Ed said, "I guess you can tell I'm very much in love with you. I'd like a little serious talk before our relationship continues to the next stage. So, before I get a box out of my jacket and ask you a life changing question, it's only fair to warn you, I'm a total golf nut. I play golf, I read about golf, I watch golf on TV. In short, I eat, sleep, and breathe golf. If that's going to be a problem, for us, you'd better say so now!"
Dorothy took a deep breath and responded, "Ed, that certainly won't be a problem. I love you as you are and I love golf too; but, since we're being totally honest with each other, you need to know that for the last five years I've been a hooker."
"Oh wow! I see," Ed replied. He looked down at the table, and was quiet for a moment, deep in serious thought then he added, "You know, it's probably because you're not keeping your wrists straight when you hit the ball."

Looks like it's time for another installment of
DID YOU KNOW?
As recently as half a century ago, there was no clear understanding as to why the sun shines. The discovery that it is due to nuclear-fusion reactions was not made until the 1930s, by Hans Beth and Carl von Weizsacker.
From one cord of wood, 7.5 million toothpicks can be produced.
Lafayette was a major general in the United States at the age of 19. Lafayette's whole name takes up an entire line on a page: Marie Joseph Paul Yves Roch Gilbert du Motier, Marquis de Lafayette.
Winston Churchill was born in a ladies' cloakroom in the ancestral castle of Blenheim. His mother was attending a formal ball there when she prematurely delivered.
Gotta make my rounds quickly before work drags me away again. I want you to stay right where you are. Keep the troops entertained and the Canteen clean.........Cause.......if you don't........I'll tell Ma!

Come on in and sit for a while. There's always plenty of coffee, pancakes, conversation, silliness, and plain old BS

Went OK. Had a few spots of plaque that were a littlei difficult for the hygenist to remove but other than that, all was well.
My next trip to the dentist is in November.
