While Arizona faces the scorn of the White House and local governments across the country for its immigration law, lawmakers in several states are looking to follow the Grand Canyon State's lead.
Lawmakers and politicians in Texas, Rhode Island, Utah and Georgia are among those who, in the month since Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer signed the law, have announced plans to introduce similar legislation.
The officials say states need to take matters into their own hands to tackle illegal immigration and in turn reduce the taxpayer cost associated with large undocumented populations in their hospitals, schools and prisons. They draw inspiration directly from the Arizona law, bucking the trend of local and state officials who have protested Arizona and called for boycotts against the state.

Hopefully this will funnel the illegals into liberal states so they can get the full impact of having them here.
I’m proud to say that Albuquerque is no longer a “sanctuary city” and the immigration status of anyone arrested with be checked. Gotta love our new mayor!!
It’s now a practical matter. States that don’t will become illegal alien magnets with massive increases in homicide, narcotics, identity theft, and other crimes.
We can thank Jan Brewer, the people in the AZ House and Senate who voted for the law plus citizens of AZ for this. I think the usurper might have tried to push amnesty before Nov if AZ had not passed this law. It was a game changer.
Jan and the folks in AZ stopped the marxists post ObamaCare momentum of rolling over us.
The stinking RINOs who were critical of AZ and the AZ law can go to h*ll. Can you here me Jeb Bush, Connie Mack, Rick Perry, Pawlenty, Kay Bailey, Cornyn, Crist, Rubio et al.
I saw that from another thread — hilarious (but gallows humor since it is pretty much spot on).
Isn’t the new mayor also of hispanic background? NM is going to see more illegals from this. NM will have to make a choice.
Megabump!
That is excellent news!! I have been waiting to see which way New Mexico will go on this, thanks.

Dubya was really wrongly wrong on his open-borders stance, but he did let ICE/INS do their jobs aggressively.
Just puke.
That is SICK! REALLY SICK!!!
Rush then went on to say that ICE (Immigration federal control folks at the top) are now saying that they will REFUSE to take the names of people the Arizona State authorities turn over to them, "that they do not have to do ANYTHING ABOUT illegals the state turns over to them!!!! That they have the right as federal agents to DETERMINE who they will deport and when.....and Napolitano AGREES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They DO NOT LIKE that Arizona aw and therefore will NOT HONOR IT!
The head of ICE said this himself in an interview in Chicago....when Rush was talking about his my husband actually pulled off the road and let his anger cool off...we were BOTH MORE INFURIATED THAN I EVER REMEMBER BEING ABOUT A PIECE OF POLITICAL NEWS...still semi-reeling.
If the FEDS do are not WILLING to DEPORT people who have SNUCK INTO OUR COUNTRY, ILLEGALLY, and engaged in criminal or suspect criminal behavior THEN WHAT IN THE HELL DO WE HAVE IMMIGRATION LAWS FOR AND WHY ARE OUR TAX DOLLARS PAYING FOR HOMELAND SECURITY AND THE FEDERAL ICE ORGANIZATION?
Excellent news. This is the second big issue where states are defending their soverignty against federal coersion.
I do not understand the worship for the mexican illegal (and now the mexican president.) I have never seen anything like it, as though it is their substitute for religion. It is just, I am convinced, a way of punishing white Americans.
And this was in spite of opposition from two of the city council members (who are Hispanic) and our governor, King Bill Richardson (who is half Hispanic). Comments on local boards about the directive from Mayor Berry are running about 95% in favor of checking the immigration status.
The local tv station web page had a story a couple of days ago saying 31 individuals who had been arrested in the previous week had been identified as illegal. No where was it emphasized that 31 criminals had been taken off the streets and that 31 US citizens could now find a job.
More power to Mayor Berry!!!
Sad to say it is not New Mexico but only Albuquerque. Governor Bill Richardson has made it very clear he supports illegal immigrants all the way.
It’s a great idea for all red states to enact these laws.
That way the illegal voters are funneled to blue states where their votes are not as damaging and they help destroy those state’s welfare systems.
Red states prosper and blue states suffer...I like it!
This is really what the Alinskyization of Arizona is about. They want to make an example of AZ so that other jurisdictions don’t get similarly uppity.
We expect this of Richardson, but the more local levels nationwide are the ones speaking up.
