WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama called for first-ever mileage and emissions standards for big rig and work trucks Friday, seeking to limit pollution from the large vehicles that contribute a big share of it.
With a presidential memorandum signed in the Rose Garden, Obama also ordered federal agencies that have already brought out new standards for cars and light trucks for the 2012-2016 model years to begin work on even stronger rules for 2017 and beyond.

Why doesn’t he just sign an executive order repealing the laws of thermodynamics and and inertial physics? That will make things easier.
To: Nachum
By executive fiat, fuel economy standards are set.....there is no need for a Congress anymore.

This sounds totally bogus or the reporterette has no background in vehicle emissions.

I’ve got an idea for Mr. Obama: Why not just stop all exploration and refining of fuel, and just push our cars and trucks?
That would also dovetail nicely into Mrs. Obama’s obesity program.

President Obama has my permission to issue all the rules he wants concerning events after 2017. It's a win-win. His liberal base gets fooled into thinking he's on the case, and I can rest assured that nothing will ever come of it. |

It is the vast experience, super knowledge, and deep wisdom he got on every subject under sun by organizing communities in inner city Chicago. May be every American should go to inner city Chicago and lives there for one year in order to gain a knowledge on how to deal with every subject under the sun.
The above was super extreme sarcasm.

This is a lie. There are already emission standards that have been issued by the EPA. New standards took effect Jan 1, 2010.
