A huge wealth gap has opened up between black and white people in the US over the past quarter of a century – a difference sufficient to put two children through university – because of racial discrimination and economic policies that favour the affluent.
A typical white family is now five times richer than its African-American counterpart of the same class, according to a report released today by Brandeis University in Massachusetts.
White families typically have assets worth $100,000 (£69,000), up from $22,000 in the mid-1980s. African-American families' assets stand at just $5,000, up from around $2,000.
A quarter of black families have no assets at all. The study monitored more than 2,000 families since 1984.

“There were also social factors, the study found. “In African-American families there is a much larger extended network of kin as well as other obligations. From other work we’ve done we know that there’s more call on the resources of relatively well-off African-American families; that they lend money that’s not given back; they help cousins go to school. They help brothers and sisters, aunts and uncles, with all kinds of legal and family problems,” said Shapiro.”
Theodore Dalrymple, a British doctor who worked for some years in the former African colonies, noted the same thing. He said that while he and the other white doctors weren’t paid more than their black counterparts, the whites lived much more comfortable lifestyles. He opined that the blacks could have been paid ten times what he was being paid and he (Dalrymple) would have more disposable income. The reason was, like the article mentioned, the expectation that the “lucky” blacks were obligated to care for their entire extended families, and perhaps extending to fellow tribe members. If, in that African nation, a black doctor moved into a nice former mansion, scads of relatives and their livestock would show up and move in also. Heaven help the black bureaucrat in that country. His relative would expect plenty of graft by their relative to fund their chosen lifestyles.
And Asian immigrants or citizens? Family size/make up and academic performance for same?
Very often black folks graduate high school (those that do) being unable to read or do basic math. It's unfortunate that the didn't get an education, but the bottom line is they can't function as productive members of society without these basic tools. If they don't have a skill-set that includes basic mathematical and reading abilities then they can't be expected to prosper and reach the same economic levels years later.

US “poverty line” is $20/day. That’s better off than 84% of everyone on the planet.
The problem: Thousands of black children born with no father in sight. The poverty/low income cycle begins with that fact with only a relative few overcoming those circumstances.

Given that the black American population is so racially mixed. The African influence should not be as determinative as in places like Jamaica, where race-mixing was less. Racial vigor is something real. Just look at Obama and Powell.

It will be painful to do, but for the long term it is the best solution. I suggest phasing out all new Welfare benefits so that in 10 years no one can get on it. And then lowering the amount of money sent out to the remaining folks on it.

I would argue that since communism in the past flourished in Russia and in China, the predisposition is other than racial.

I can see where you’re coming from. I’m more in favor of the cold-turkey/sudden-shock method:
If we were to stop welfare, fire all the people employed by those agencies, and dissolve those agencies in one fell swoop we would be effectively cutting off any future meddling/extension/’system-gaming’ by the beneficiaries (recipients & those employed by those agencies) .
that is to say, they would have to [re-]start the program rather than just ‘tweak’ an already-existing program.
