What a pity. If she had a pleasant expression on her face, that would actually be a very attractive and flattering picture.

All he has to do is hire NBC Today’s Show host Jenna Wolfe as Press Secretary but he’ll never do it.(sarc)

>> Moving averages are excellent for moderating real world variation in time based data <<

I couldn’t agree more. But they’ve gotta be used with caution.

To illustrate my complaint against the three-day averages, let’s do a thought experiment and assume that the “true, underlying” value of Rasmussen’s Presidental Approval Index is absolutely steady at -12. The nightly samples will naturally show some variation around that value, but the three-day average will normally be very close, usually withing a point or two.

But then let’s further assume that a “one-out-of-twenty” case happens, where on just one single night the sample’s “raw number” is more than two sigma away from the true value. Let’s say here that the sampled value on that one night comes in at -25. Then the approximate value for the three-day average Rasmussen gives us the next morning, rounded to the nearest integer, will be (-1)*(12 + 12 + 25)/3 = -16. Moreover, even if the nightly sample returns a “true” value of -12 for the next two nights, we’ll still be stuck with the misleading value of -16 for two more mornings.

That’s my main point. And if you’ll do a scatter diagram of the Rasmussen Index over several months, then fit some kind of trend line to your diagram (linear, polynomial, moving average, whatever), you’ll probably see a number of “three-day” clusters that are markedly off-trend.

Bottom line: Trust something like a 10-day moving average over Rasmussen’s daily reports.

“some had been falsely coaxed into a feeling of economic stability because their stock portfolio was back up above 11,000. The shaky economic news the past 10 days is taking its toll on O.”

Good point.... I should be dawning on people by now that ...

Every time you vote Democrat, an American loses a job.

“Someone needs to sends a memo the hordes of liberal morons who voted for the Dim son of Murtha Critz. Supposedly, these extremely mentally defective voters do not understand that a vote for a Dim is a vote for zero’s agenda. These people are still oblivious to the fact all Dims will toe the party line when a vote is absolutely needed, so it doesn’t matter that Critz says he is against cap and trade, the initial vote for 0bmamacare.”

Careful. 53% of PA-12 voters voted from a ‘prolife, progun, anti-Obamacare, anti-cap-and-tax’ candidate ... Democrat.

They are no dumber than the Americans who voted for “a tax cut for 95% of Americans” Obama.

Adding adverbs like “strongly” to any verb is going to create more statistical noise, since the word “strongly” is an added layer of subjectivity for the respondent to decipher. That’s why I just tend to look at the approve/dissaprove number.
