Now pin a little gold star on your lapel dear. Don’t you feel better for being ugly? My My My...you made sure that everyone in the forum realizes that you ‘put me in my place’. You sweet thing, standing up for....what exactly was it that you were standing up for? What was your point again?

Mercy. Get a grip, people.

First, Laura's response was somewhat generic. She said she thought it was great that the court might have a third woman. That should not surprise anyone, she has always been an advocate of women in high places. Moreover, from the start she has pointed out that she and President Bush do not always agree on a few issues.

Second, I have not yet watched the entire interview just this "teaser" clip. All of you know that certain comments are often taken out of context to be deliberately provocative or controversial in order to attack viewers. I plan to watch the full interview later but I expect that single statement will probably be the only disappointing or objectionable answer.

What did you expect to hear? A harsh, trash talking rant from this gentle woman who has never publicly spoken an unkind about anyone? Really?

Lastly, do not be so quick to throw her under the bus, that is exactly the knee jerk, politically correct reaction that we have come to expect from the likes of Obama. Do you really want to follow his lead? Instead why not continue to appreciate Laura Bush for her strength, character and intelligence as you have always done. She is not a chameleon, a jellyfish, a rubber stamp. Nor is she an agitator or a sell-out. She is a decent, mature woman who is capable of independent thought.

Republicans for life is becoming as unusual as Democrats for life. It has become political boob bait for the bubbas then is off the radar after election day.

Oops - I made the mistake of thinking I was having a real discussion! Won’t make *that* mistake again.

Thank God you've finally come to your senses!

Try ‘deceiver’.

You have to remember you're dealing with The Blindfold Brigade here. ;-)

'Are you a lawyer? So only lawyers can make informed decisions?"

If you were to ask someone if a physician was qualified to be head of surgery, would you value that "someone's" opinion if they had no training as a surgeon, or a physician?

I'm not sure why an appointment to the Supreme Court is any different. Why would anyone care about legal opinion from someone who has never studied or practiced law, especially when that opinion deals with the evaluation of a candidate's legal positions, credentials or probable judicial temperament.

Asking Laura Bush about her thought on Kagen is EXACTLY like asking Julia Roberts opinion of Global Warming. Who cares. Laura Bush is an attorney or judge and has no frame of reference or experience upon which to base an opinion - just like the fact that Julia Roberts never trained as a scientist of ANY KIND, so why would anyone value her scientific opinion?

Bush’s second term was a complete disaster

Bush was doomed by his refusal to veto the excesses of the 2004 Republican Congress, and tried to get along with the 2006 Democratic Congress that proceeded to destroy this country. Our economic collapse was caused by actions and policies of the Democratic congress, passively supported by Bush's collapse as a leader who just wanted out.

"If someone doesn't allow you to voice an opinion which differs from theirs and you must walk on eggshells around them when it comes to particular topics, it's probably time to find other friends who aren't so touchy and volatile."

Nawh. OW is not that thin skinned. I'll venture to say that she speaks to most peoples first reaction, before the likability factor of LB is mixed into the equation...if we were all honest about it.

Liberals exist...much to our dismay and we really are not in a position to cast them to the depths of h@ll when there is still time for conversion, especially when they seem to have potential...like being in love with and married to conservatives. :)

You’re right arasina. If we were all in the same area I’m sure that my lynching would commence. Some of the FReepers on this forum are very ugly people and it shows with this reaction.

Laura Bush...such a ‘classy’ ‘sweet’ FL and did so much good...and at least “she kept quiet” etc etc etc. But It was all a front. She’s a fake.

So all of the FReepers flaming me because of what I said, go ahead, compromise a little more...make allowances because you think she was such a great first lady. Pretty soon you will have no principles left because you will continue to ‘make allowances’.

I'm sorry, if you didn't know that some of Laura's positions differ from those of her husband then you just weren't paying attention or you chose to ignore her.

FGS! Do not lose sight of who the real enemy is, it is not Laura Bush. The woman simply exercised the very freedom of speech we all value. She expressed an opinion different from what some expected... Big Deal! That isn't evidence that she has been deliberately misleading or is a duplicitous fraud with socialist leanings.

Yes, LB has the right to say what ever she wants and btw, her ‘free speech’ will never be taken because she is a liberal. It was all a ruse and I think that is part of my own anger.
Cast the first stone? None of us are sinless...no not one but I will tell you one damn thing:
I am not for jamming scissors into the base of a baby's skull and then sucking the brains out. I am not for sucking a baby out of the womb, tearing it limb by limb. I am not for sodomy...rectal sex (in case you didn't know what that is). Diseased behavior...I'm not for 2 mommys or 2 daddys. So...I'll be glad to cast the first stone on that.

Right! Librarians rarely ever read.

Never argue with a woman who reads for it is likely she can also think.

You are correct of course. I never voted for her, just that conniving, sneaky, pos that she is married too.

A pox on them all!

And I would never have expected them to join me in a lie, or hold back their honest feelings. But then I never sat out to deceive the public either.

Are you really so clueless? Maybe that's why you've been married several times. Just sayin...

Try to wrap your mind around these simple facts:

1. Laura Bush never ran for political office. Her husband did.

2. He ran on his records and political persuasion, not hers.

3. She supported her husband in numerous ways, one of which was to keep her own political points of view private.

Your challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to analyze those three simple facts and figure out why she never lied or deceived the public.

Yes we are all angry and upset about those things. That is why we are here. We are not your enemy OW. People just need time to understand the complexity of women who just don't get it. Some are not textbook evil..they are just not aware. They are like children in a sense, naïve and some prefer to see them as blameless for that reason.

Sure..there are venomous committed leftists who know exactly what they are doing...I just don't see Laura that way. I may be wrong..but she seems aloof to me.

Don't be so upset about this...get yourself a favorite reward and take a break...we don't need anymore blood pressure and stroke problems around here. It's been a bad weekend.

I disagree. It is a big deal. It's about principles. Why go all wobbly because it's someone who did a good job of acting dignified as First Lady? Some fish are beautiful and mesmerizing as they swim so gracefully in the sea, but while we're watching their lovely show, the hungry shark is closing in on us from behind.

Why not at least use the same measure of discernment as you would with, say, Peggy Noonan? All the little things add up. The opinions Laura Bush is expressing in her interviews and in her book are not Conservative. The Mouthpiece Media use things like this to whittle away at our foundation, our tenets, our support. Why do you think they are so happy to interview her on their programs? She agrees with them and makes Conservatives look like fools. /rant off
