Sarah Palin's Political Bandwagon Is wobbling Under The Weight of Contradictions [Fiorina Backlash?]

Sarah Palin's Political Bandwagon Is wobbling Under The Weight of Contradictions The Sarah Palin phenomenon is finally beginning to fade as contradictions mount up, says Alex Spillius in Washington

Alex Spillius 15 May 2010

We are seeing the first signs of wobble on the Sarah Palin bandwagon. This may seem a strange thing to say about a political superstar who has earned at least $12 million in the past 18 months from a publishing advance, personal appearance fees and a television punditry contract, not to forget a reality show about life in Alaska.

Palin is such a boon to the struggling book world that her second opus, America by Heart - Reflection on Family, Faith and Flag, can already be ordered in advance even though publication is six months away. A return to the number one spot on the best seller list surely awaits.

But other indices are proving less kind to the former Alaska governor. According to a recent poll more Alaskans than not think the presidency should not form the next chapter of Palin's extraordinary story, while 45 per cent gave her a negative personal rating. When John McCain plucked her from obscurity to be his Republican running mate in the 2008 campaign, her approval rating at home was 80 per cent, the highest of any governor in the country.

Now even a poll of Tea Party supporters, her most ardent fans, showed that a majority wouldn't vote for her if she ran for president in 2012. It is not just that the faithful are beginning to question her readiness for the White House.

Don’t lecture me on Sarah Palin.

It’s akin to lecturing the Pope on Catholics.

I will continue to critique her as I see fit whether you or any other freeper likes it or not.

You people are ridiculous just like the Bushbots were.

A Palin hater is a poster that posts that Sarah Palin is the enemy and “FUSP”.

“That is so true. And probably because he cannot raise enough money, Devore is honest and the best candidate.”

He’s not held national office, has he? He was in the State Assembly before this run? I’d like to see him run for Congress, then perhaps he could go Senate or Governor. He seems like a great candidate. [I hate to give up on him, but he needs some motion NOW, otherwise, I think we need to squash Campbell.]

...you can bet Romney’s greasy fingers are on it.

You betcha, and Team Bush is cheering in the background.

Like you, I'm no fan of Steele but Palin knows what's afoot here. You can count on that.

It has to do with terrorists and Muslim affinity. Boxer is the lesser of the three evils in that regard, IMO. Of course, it would be better to have an R in that seat for numbers purposes.

But at this point, our country is in grave danger from those that side with the radical Muslims. As I said, there was no reason for a Muslim lobbying group to be at that SCOTUS announcement.

The enemy is within and our country is getting taken down.

We get what large campaign contributors pay for.
Institutional Statism through default. Progressivism has been phenomenally successful in concentrating power into a few hands.

When you use, or should I say misuse, terms like cult of personality and apply them to a group of conservatives, I am going to call you on it....every time.

Quit reminding everyone how many rallies you have been to and how much you support her. If you weren’t bashing her so often, you wouldn’t have to include that qualifier in every post. I don’t care if you show up for every rally she attends. That gives you no special license to insult her supporters.

And yes, Steele should be fired but it isn’t going to happen.

Yet your comment was:
“I don’t want to hear from all the Palin haters how FR doesn’t allow any criticism of Palin.”

It seems to me inherent in your comment is that those that are annoyed that FR ‘doesn’t allow any criticism of Palin’ are Palin haters. Perhaps that’s a necessary but not sufficient condition of being a ‘Palin hater.’ If you’re going to use such a term, please do clarify it.

...’doesn’t allow any criticism’ I think is overstating it, if people are saying that, but it certainly is true that the early adopters for Palin for POTUS 2012 community here really rally against any kind of criticism of her, even legitimate, thoughtful criticism. We should be open to constructive criticism and shouldn’t hide behind phraseology like ‘Palin haters’ without defining terms. Thanks for doing that in your second post.

“In the long term, Steele should be replaced. But for the short term, he is better than someone whom Mittens or Jeb Bush would install.”

I agree here. It’s likely that Rs will do well in November. That will probably give Steele another 2 to 4 years in office. Mebbe he can redeem himself from his recent rocky patches. He’d do well to stay away from racial politics - is that too much to ask? :)

From allegedly FR is “Palin Country” we’re down to “Nitpick, Bash, Trash, and Tear Down Sarah Palin,” and call her defenders “Sarah Worshippers” -”Cult of Personality” and other such juvenile terms.

Spot on Onyx!
