US Church Set To Ordain Lesbian Bishop
By Robert Pigott Religious affairs correspondent, BBC News
Mary Glasspool has been with her partner since 1988. The Episcopal Church in the US is set to go ahead with the controversial ordination of an openly lesbian bishop. Saturday's ordination comes despite warnings from the Archbishop of Canterbury that it will deepen an already bitter dispute on sexuality. Canon Mary Glasspool, 56, will become an assistant bishop in Los Angeles, the first openly gay US bishop since Gene Robinson seven years ago.
Since then the Anglican Communion has been on course for a permanent split.
Marginalisation
The election of Mary Glasspool - who has been with her partner Becki for 22 years - represented a snub by the liberal Episcopal Church to other Anglican Churches around the world. Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams had urged the American Church not to proceed with the ordination, warning that it would further alienate traditionalists who believe active homosexuality to be a sin. It is likely to accelerate the gradual marginalisation of the Episcopal Church within a two-tier Communion and increase tensions between Anglicans elsewhere.

I am sorry, I do not quite understand. Why on Earth is it OK for a priest/priestess to engage in a lifestyle that is explicitly called sinful and unacceptable by any fair biblical interpretation by ANYBODY? Why can't an active unrepentant pederast, or rapist, or murderer become a bishop?
Just asking!

I’d be more concern about alienating God...who cares what the ‘traditionalists’ think.

Well, they ARE imposing their “morality” on gay bishops by saying they have to be “monogomous”. Damn them for being so closed minded!

I wish I could find an alternative that works for me. I have tried the different denominations, but nothing really feels like "worship" to me outside of an "Anglo-catholic" Mass.
I really do hate sitting home on Sundays, but I WILL NOT support these people with my money; and I WILL NOT give them any credibility with my presence in the pew.
I keep hoping someone will wake up and stop this madness, but I fear that it is too late.

They are not required to remain celibate. They are not Catholic Priests. They are Episcopalians. They are actively engaged in Homosexual behavior.

True Christ never did speak of Lesbianism per say, I never said that he did. I stated that in ALL respects Homosexual behavior is condemned unequivocally in the pages of the Bible and in MANY areas.
As you well know, homosexuality is not condemned by either the church or the Bible, it is the homosexual acts that are condemned and sinful.
Homosexuality is no different than the urge of every man to engage in sex with as many women as possible. It is an urge that is to be controlled through prayer and SELF RESTRAINT. My point, although somewhat facetious, is valid. At what point is an active and unrepentant sinner unworthy of a high office a denomination? They should certainly NOT be held up as paragons of virtue and should not be given high office in an organization that is supposed to be about following the dictates of the Bible. p>
