Arizona limits ethnic studies in public schools

(CNN) -- Fresh on the heels of a new immigration law that has led to calls to boycott her state, Arizona's governor has signed a bill banning ethnic studies classes that "promote resentment" of other racial groups.

Gov. Jan Brewer approved the measure without public statement Tuesday, according to state legislative records. The new law forbids elementary or secondary schools to teach classes that are "designed primarily for pupils of a particular ethnic group" and advocate "the overthrow of the United States government" or "resentment toward a race or class of people."

The bill was pushed by state school Superintendent Tom Horne, who has spent two years trying to get Tucson schools to drop a Mexican-American studies program he said teaches Latino students they are an oppressed minority. There was no immediate response from the Tucson Unified School District, the law's main target.

I started trying to read it in 2004. Got to page 150, and couldn’t go any further. Too close to home. About a year later, I started over and got through it. Didn’t appreciate her atheist slant, but otherwise it was still too accurate. Except she didn’t give us a clue where to find Galt’s Gulch!! :-)

Nothing to be ashamed of. It’s a looooooong book. I read it in 98 for the first time and just again this year. It was a very different read the second time through especially after what has gone on in the world in that 12 year span.

She knew what evil communism was and we are seeing it play out in front of us right now.

Maybe Texas is too big. Maybe we have too many liberals to do the right thing. Maybe we should break up into several states.

Imagine a Brewer/Bachman administration with Sheriff Joe Arpaio running the Department of Homeland Security.

That would be ALL of the groups...

I admit I know very little about Arizona. I've only been in Phoenix for a few days many years ago.

What makes Arizona unique in their willingness to fight political correctness and do something about illegal immigration? Other states have conservative populations with the same serious problems with illegal aliens... Texas for example... but do nothing.

We need to find out the magic formula.

My wife and I were set to move to Texas for our retirement until we experienced... JULY in Texas. Walking out of the motel was like having a dozen wet, hot, blankets suddenly dropped over you. We were both born and raised in Miami, FL but even this place doesn't get TEXAS hot. I have no reason to believe Arizona would be any different. A buddy of mine lives out near Paulden, AZ and he's got this t-shirt that depicts a skeleton snoozing on a lounge chair in the middle of the desert with flames licking over him and the caption reads: "Yeah, but it's a DRY heat!" Which nicely sums things up. Our current retirement plans now have us moving to the mountains of western NC or possibly Northwest GA. Sure NC is a bit more liberal (especially the area around Ashville) but the tradeoffs are still good for us. If I really wanted to live in FA (FREE AMERICA) I'd move to Boise, ID.

Because business and engineering departments couldn't possibly spread leftist indoctrination? The liberal arts are the most important battlegrounds in academia today, and possibly in education as a whole. Surrendering them will do nothing but enhance the left's stranglehold.

Will Jan Brewer be in history books someday as the woman who saved America?
**********

We’ll need a chapter on the “Re-founding Mothers”, i.e., Bachmann, Palin, Brewer and Coulter.

;-)

Perhaps we need a new national monument: Mount Rushmom

ACTIVE CNN POLL!

Poll question: Do you support Arizona’s law banning public schools from teaching ethnic studies classes that “promote resentment” of racial groups?

Jeb Bush, Rove, Rubio and any other Republican who had doubts about Arizona, should now do an about turn and come on board and support what Arizona is doing. Otherwise, they are useless RINOs or playing in the hands of the socialists.

Nice, but what's to keep a federal court from striking it down as "unconsitutionally vague"?

She claimed that she has to have these classes so she won’t be ashamed of her color and victim status.

And just who is teaching her that she's a victim and that the color of her skin is something to be ashamed of?

It isn't any white people I've ever encountered.

All the white folks I know don't really care what color anyone's skin is.
