I served on a promotion board recently, and there were a bunch of Bronze Stars awarded for, best I can tell, being in the AOR and maybe going outside the wire occasionally. My dad’s got a real one, along with multiple DFCs and Air Medals, and I’m ashamed to tell him what they’re given out for these days.

Do you also receive a medal if you shoot yourself in the foot? No, only for fragging your own arse with rice grains plus assorted minor scratches barely requiring a bandaid. Plus you get a cushy job in the Senate.

Oh, I see. You’re referring to the Genghis Khan Medal for Meritorious Plundering and Aggressive Stupidity!

Air Force commander, British Commander and some other non-combatant. Well they're trying their best to destroy the combat mentality in the Armed Forces. So we have a successful snatch and grab, then 3 SEALs get taken out of action by lawyers. Marines take a casualty and successfully repulse an ambush then get blamed for civilian deaths.
Any special operator, Marine or service member fighting in a FAO is now subject to the PC rules of engagement. Good luck with that. We should just pack it in and report to the nearest mosque for indoctrination, humping goats and beating women.

Id really like the medal, but.....ah shucks....You got your key?....I got mine! Whats the code? Actually you can go on line and apply for the Cold War Certificate. That is all you get. I never applied for mine as I thought it was degrading and condescending.

If they want “restraint” they should hire and train police officers.
If it is really SO important to NOT kill people in Afghanistan, then we should bring our troops home.

Not all Bronze Stars are for bravery. They are also awarded for meritorious service. A V device indicates it was awarded for valor.

I’d say that killing terrorists from a UAV is pretty “meritorious.” A Bronze Star (no V) might be in order for UAV pilots who showing extraordinary competence in finding and killing terrorists.

What documentation in the file led you to this conclusion?

Me too, but that often calls for a slightly lesser award-the Meritorious Service Award.

I remember after Desert Storm, Bronze Stars were given to literally everybody assigned to CENTAF HQ.
So there's nothing new under the sun.

Next, medals will be handed out for showing up on time, dressing properly, playing well with others..... You must be thinking of the AF.
Sorry mark, the old grunt in me just couldn't resist.
