Not all Bronze Stars are for bravery. They are also awarded for meritorious service. A V device indicates it was awarded for valor.

I’d say that killing terrorists from a UAV is pretty “meritorious.” A Bronze Star (no V) might be in order for UAV pilots who showing extraordinary competence in finding and killing terrorists.

There are plenty of other awards for meritorious service which are not tied to combat awards, such as the MSM, Defense Distinguished Service Medal, Legion of Merit, etc. I’m kinda old fashioned, I guess, but I think the Bronze Star should be like the Silver Star—combat action only, that way there’s no “V” device for confusion.
