The origin of modern myths and legends is a side interest of mine, the birther myths among them.
Now I understand why Obama being born in Kenya made it into your belief system, despite it being physically impluasible (requiring around 5 days and five flights, most on propeller planes) and financially impossible (it would have cost about a year of her parents' combined salaries) for Stanley Ann & Obama Sr. to travel there for her to give birth. After all, Obama's Father was from Kenya, so if you are going to make up a myth about Obama being born abroad, what better place than Kenya?
Implausibilty, and even impossiblilty doesn't deter the making of myths if there is a strong emotional reason to believe them, as in this case.
What I don't understand is, of all possible places in Kenya, why make Mombassa the birthplace in your myth? If you look at the map of Kenya, it's on the other end of the country from Obama Sr.'s village, 762 miles away, which would make it a minimum 2 day train ride. Probably longer, since Kenyan trains were very fast in 1961.
I suppose you could argue that there were no hospitals in Obama's village, so they had to travel to a major city. But Nairobi was closer, and more modern.
So why Mombassa? Not only is it completely implausible; I don't see the emotional appeal. Why Mombasssa rather than his father's village? Or why Mombassa rather than Nairobi?
Help me out here, birthers. Why do you reserve this special place for Mombassa in your belief system?
Curiosity is an Obot troll.
I think it had to do with travel schedules on passenger liners. For freighters, that would obviously be different.
The sponsors learned that $100 had been paid to the Free Republic.
He said that Sr. flew into Honolulu, and I was disputing that, but he is moot!!!
OGOMBE: No, Obama was not born in Mombasa. He was born in America.
Why is it that the translator Ogombe saw fit to correct her or prevent her from answering that question truthfully?
Firstly, where do you get the idea that Ogombe is correcting HER? If you listen to the tape, Obombe translates McRae's question about Mombasa to Sarah, there's some discussion in Swahili, and then Ogombe translates back the response. A couple of questions later, he even explicitly states that he's translating her response, not correcting in her place: "Hawaii, sir. She says he was born in Hawaii."
And as I've said before, McRae had a translator on the scene, the pseudonymous 'Reverend Shuhubia.' If Ogombe was mistranslating or interjecting inappropriately, 'Shuhubia' never spoke up to say so. And he's heard on the tape at other times, so he must've been okay with the translation.
But all that's beside the point. null & void said that there have been "relatives" who witnessed a supposed birth in "Nairobi." He used that as an argument, and it's utterly false. If you're attempting to redefine "relatives" from plural to singular, and "Nairobi" to "not Nairobi," then you're going a long way to changing what null actually wrote in order to avoid admitting he lied.
Post the actual transcript including what was actually said in Swahili.
I know you have it, let’s see it.
Who was Ogombe, and who did he work for?
The line I quoted came from you, it is his response not her’s to the question of Obama’s birthplace, which every Kenyan well tell you is Kenya.
I stopped falling for this distraction tactic a while back, you know.
null & void posts a lie. I point out it’s a lie. You respond to my accusation, and your response includes a bit of a tangent. I respond to the tangent and reiterate the initial accusation, and you respond in turn by completely ignoring the original dispute and trying to shift the entire conversation onto your new chosen tangent.
Sorry, but no. McRae and ‘Shuhubia’s failure to tape the conversation on the Kenyan end is wholly irrelevant to null’s factual claim. null says there have been multiple relatives who have claimed to have witnessed a birth in Nairobi. Maybe he was trying to start a new rumor, and hoping that no one would call him on it. I’m still saying that his statement is a lie, and no one, not even null, seems interested in actually saying it’s not.
Instead, you just want to change subjects.
And now your own posts on this VERY thread are according to you are a distraction????
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
I don't have infinite amounts of time. I have a life. I also need breaks from arguing with birthers. You probably won't be hearing from me for a while.
But you seems to have plenty of time to answer my question on post 698 and earlier , or you just want to change subject in the middle of the road???
If I recall correctly one of the initiators of the Mombasa story was Chief Editor Korir (once worshiped by birthers like a Messiah - no one of the tough birthers even dared to contradict him). He said a nephew of the Imam that baptized Obama in Mombasa had copy of a Mombasa Mosque’s birth record. This was a blatant and ridiculous lie for a couple of very simple reasons: there is no baptism in Islam (in fact there are no sacraments as in Christianity) and ensuingly Mosques don’t keep baptism (or wedding or death) records. However this lie sticked and was discussed for many months. I believe Mombasa, a predominantly Muslim city was chosen to enforce the radical-islamic connection. This case remains emblematic about how gullible birthers can be.
Never heard of him
you really missed something. Hilarious and troubling.
Kenyan scammer living in Norway. Inventor of Mombasa Imam, Michelle tapes and other countless birther legends. An allmost mythoilogical figure.
Look him up, Chief Editor Korir, the site was africanpress or something similar. He had all of them in his pocket with his false promises: Berg, Corsi, Martin.
Have fun, he was great.
I’d like to see a link that definitively ties him to Berg, Corsi, and Martin where they admit he pulled a Nigerian type scam on them, please.
don’t understand quite well what you mean by “tied”. They where not his accomplices, only they believed him. I’ll post the link you requested. If you are impatient you can just look it up yourself, there are many references, mails, blogs.
“Tied” as in you have proof they were all actually bamboozled by the same source, or is that too difficult?
Per WND:
“Corsi reported that when he was in Kenya he was told that Obama actually was born not in Honolulu but in Mombosa, on the Kenyan coast. He also said he was told by government officials there that his records were sealed and nothing could be released.”

Corsi was in Kenya investigating Obama’s support for fellow Luo tribesman Odinga at the time.
From WND’s analysis of the tape that Berg put into evidence by Luo tribal folks who know Obama’s step grandma:
begin quote:
Nevertheless, two members of Sarah Hussein Obama’s Luo tribe who are fluent in the local Luo dialect, Swahlili and English told WND that after carefully listening to the tape they believe she declared Barack Obama Jr. was born in Mombasa, Kenya, and that she was present at the birth.
Tale of the tape
Sarah Hussein Obama, who is not a blood relative of the president, is the third wife of Obama’s paternal grandfather. According to New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof, who visited her village during the presidential campaign, the grandmother is illiterate and doesn’t know when she was born. Several news reports say she was born in 1922.
The controversy over the tape centers on the interpreter, who at the end interjects repeatedly that the grandmother said Obama was born in Hawaii.
One of the WND sources who listened to the tape knows Sarah Obama and has met with her in her home village. The other holds a respected position in the Kenyan government.
The source who knows the grandmother declared: “I have keenly and attentively listened to the tape over and over again, and I can confirm from Sarah’s own confession that Barack Obama was born in Kenya in her presence.”
The source said that while Sarah Obama’ voice is hard to hear on the recording, “she admits of actually having been there at his birth.”
He said that while the people in the room with Sarah Obama “tried as much as they [could] to change the tone of the whole story to me it seems someone is coaching her from the background and seemingly trying to guide her on what to say.”
The Kenyan government source agreed.
“I have listened to the tape,” he said. “The preacher asked whether Barack Obama was born in Mombasa, and the translator asked the same. When she said Mombasa, it was like a surprise, and those there thought she could not have meant to say Mombasa.”
The source said that at that point “they began insisting Hawaii was where Barack Obama was born.”
Sarah Obama can be heard uttering “Mombasa” in response to McRae’s question about where Obama was born.

Well there you have it...this ends the debate.
B Hussein is obviously not an NBC because unlike John McCain...the Senate did not proclaim him as much.
