A question for birthers: why Mombassa?
Vanity | Me

Posted on 05/12/2010 8:47:16 AM PDT by curiosity

The origin of modern myths and legends is a side interest of mine, the birther myths among them.

Now I understand why Obama being born in Kenya made it into your belief system, despite it being physically impluasible (requiring around 5 days and five flights, most on propeller planes) and financially impossible (it would have cost about a year of her parents' combined salaries) for Stanley Ann & Obama Sr. to travel there for her to give birth. After all, Obama's Father was from Kenya, so if you are going to make up a myth about Obama being born abroad, what better place than Kenya?

Implausibilty, and even impossiblilty doesn't deter the making of myths if there is a strong emotional reason to believe them, as in this case.

What I don't understand is, of all possible places in Kenya, why make Mombassa the birthplace in your myth? If you look at the map of Kenya, it's on the other end of the country from Obama Sr.'s village, 762 miles away, which would make it a minimum 2 day train ride. Probably longer, since Kenyan trains were very fast in 1961.

I suppose you could argue that there were no hospitals in Obama's village, so they had to travel to a major city. But Nairobi was closer, and more modern.

So why Mombassa? Not only is it completely implausible; I don't see the emotional appeal. Why Mombasssa rather than his father's village? Or why Mombassa rather than Nairobi?

Help me out here, birthers. Why do you reserve this special place for Mombassa in your belief system?

Ah yes graduation day at night with a suitcase and only one graduate wearing leis, sailors in uniform..absent Ann and his baby Obie...photo taken in dark unlit area...May 1964 afternoon?

Like I said, silly me for trusting the news agency who published the photo rather than the random unknown internet person who saw the photo and guessed the secret real truth.

And sailors? And leis? In *Hawaii*? What are the odds? Clearly, they must be getting off a ship.

Seriously though, where on earth did "May 1964 afternoon" come from? Barack Sr. graduated from the University of Hawaii in June 1962. And while I admittedly was not in Hawaii in June 1962, I'm fairly certain they had regular periods of darkness in those days.

I proved it was plausible, and that was all I needed to do.

That was all we were asked to do.

Really? Because when I look at the thread-starter, it ended with this question:

"So why Mombassa? Not only is it completely implausible; I don't see the emotional appeal. Why Mombasssa rather than his father's village? Or why Mombassa rather than Nairobi?

"Help me out here, birthers. Why do you reserve this special place for Mombassa in your belief system?"

Are you saying the answer to "Why Mombasa?" is nothing more than "Because it's plausible"? And by "plausible," you mean "Tom Mboya might have been there, so Barack Sr. might have traveled there so that he might have met with Mboya about his future plans for Harvard"?

I'm sorry; I assumed you were attempting to justify the actual city of Mombasa, rather than Kenya as a whole. Y'know, the topic of the thread. Do you have any original, pre-Berg justification for suspecting the city of Mombasa?

That is a suspected birth city of Obama Jr. in 1961. You know you are a troll right? You certainly have come nowhere of disapproving it. Race Bannon on this thread has said Obama told him that he was born in Monbasa, Kenya.

And by "crushing evidence" you mean several foreign news reports about an American politician, some statements by people Obama's never met, and a handful of comments and idioms by family members that you interpret to be confessions? That "crushing evidence"?

You can poo poo it all you want troll it is overwhelming preponderance of evidence sure does point that Obama was born in Kenya. It smashes your silly arguments. His wife Michelle is certainly close enough for you right? She has lived with him for 20 years.

Here is Michelle O. saying, "Barack Obama - a Kenyan, a black man," http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2507951/posts

And she also said,

"When we visit his home country in Kenya"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R627vej6SmQ&feature=related

Of course. It's a huge secret here in the US, but the entire government of Kenya knows it?

It is a huge open secret and being ridiculed by the left and the media rules the day to shut people up. Obama and his sycophants do everything they can to keep it all bottled up and out of the courts, and to prosecute people who try to find out about his past. That's no conspiracy theory, it is a fact.

Obama's sworn everyone in the US to silence

Obama uses ridicule, threats, and bribes for his method to silence. It's not always fool proof.

but he took the trouble to tell the Kenyan government?

He didn't have to tell them - they knew troll. Obama better start paying more tribute to Kenya to shut them up.

And I'm sure the reason why they aren't speaking up is because they're all in on the conspiracy too?

Already answered to why the issue is being silenced. And I am speaking up because that's the likely reason, and to slam useful Obama idiot posts coming from you.

My oh my, who to trust...I mean, one’s a primary source from a national news agency, and the other is a random person making up stuff on the internet. It’s like trying to decide whether to trust a respected fact-checking organization or a convicted forger/amateur cryptozoologist.

Unless CBS took the picture and can vouch for the details, you need to use a little common sense. What part of that picture looks like it was at a graduation ceremony or graduation party?? Is it the big chest in the foreground or the shipsmen to the side that convince you this was related to a graduation festivity?? Does it look like a yard party or a function at the school?? Where is the diploma, tassel, gown or mortar board??

Not much common sense comes from Politijab.com flunkies.

"Not only is it completely implausible"

Proved it was.... That was step one!

"I don't see the emotional appeal"

Tourist location.....That was step two.

"Why Mombasssa rather than his father's village?"

His father never paid for his trip, his patron Tom Mboya did..... that was step three.

All logical, all plausible, remember what we were asked to do, not prove that they did but rather what was possible reasons for doing so and how it could be done.

Why Mombasa?

So he would not have to explain a white wife to his first one or his father...There is yet another reason and here is one more he probably took Stanley to meet Tom Mboya so that he could smooth the waters with his father, and I believe it went badly so he dumped her and went to Harvard solo.

My best guess the second white wife that he brought home from Harvard effectively ended his political career.

State schools aren't expensive.

LOL. Yeah right....suuuuuree.....that's why my kids are in debt up to their eyeballs.

As I mentioned earlier, his education and travel was financed by various foundations and grants made available to African students in the late 1950's and early 1960's.

Too bad George Obama is still living in his home sweet hut and can't afford the education 'daddy' got huh? You're just full of it.

Do you have some facts to back up that statement?

Are you seriously doubting that there aren't special scholarships available for minority students?

and if so, I don't know of any financial aid packages that will cover tuition at an in-state school,

Occidental and Columbia are private, and private schools don't care about whether you are in state or out of state.

Tuition at the University of Hawaii today is around 3300 per semester for an in-state student. It's just a little more at the University of Washington. Google it if you don't believe me. Seems affordable for a furniture salesman and bank teller with only one child.

Now that's today. Of course, it's a well known tuition everywhere has risen faster than inflation, so back in 1960 it must have been even more affordable.

We were talking about who would be footing her college tuition bill. Genreally, that obligation falls on the parents.

Tuition is one thing (and 'affordable' is an optimistic way to look at college tuition during any time period), but they would have to help subsidize her apartment and to raise a child by herself. Seems like they would have had her stay in Hawaii and live with them if money was a problem.

Yeah, and what about traveling expenses (since you’re so hung up on how impossible it was to to be able to travel), plus room and board added onto that at Washington???? Plus books, child care, formula, etc.??? Gee it just keeps adding up - Hint: lot more than just tuition involved.

But that’s okay just keeping typing away spinning and bloviating while you keep incriminating yourself. Trust me I don’t mind.

One of these days Obama will go down, and all those who aided and abetted him will go down with him, and that includes you.

Hopefully JimRob is keeping a cache of all your posts, just so we’ll know where to find you when it comes time to send out the subpoenas. I know I’m keeping a record, just to keep it handy when the time comes you understand. Might want to think about Canada, I hear its nice this time of year.
