A question for birthers: why Mombassa?
Vanity | Me

Posted on 05/12/2010 8:47:16 AM PDT by curiosity

The origin of modern myths and legends is a side interest of mine, the birther myths among them.

Now I understand why Obama being born in Kenya made it into your belief system, despite it being physically impluasible (requiring around 5 days and five flights, most on propeller planes) and financially impossible (it would have cost about a year of her parents' combined salaries) for Stanley Ann & Obama Sr. to travel there for her to give birth. After all, Obama's Father was from Kenya, so if you are going to make up a myth about Obama being born abroad, what better place than Kenya?

Implausibilty, and even impossiblilty doesn't deter the making of myths if there is a strong emotional reason to believe them, as in this case.

What I don't understand is, of all possible places in Kenya, why make Mombassa the birthplace in your myth? If you look at the map of Kenya, it's on the other end of the country from Obama Sr.'s village, 762 miles away, which would make it a minimum 2 day train ride. Probably longer, since Kenyan trains were very fast in 1961.

I suppose you could argue that there were no hospitals in Obama's village, so they had to travel to a major city. But Nairobi was closer, and more modern.

So why Mombassa? Not only is it completely implausible; I don't see the emotional appeal. Why Mombasssa rather than his father's village? Or why Mombassa rather than Nairobi?

Help me out here, birthers. Why do you reserve this special place for Mombassa in your belief system?

Did you happen to notice the Freudian slip, with the inadvertent racial inference? The poster is not only a liar (this thread is hardly research for economic behavior topics), he/she/it is an obamanoid sycophant willing to deceive readers to cover for his affirmative action bastard boy.

You’re not helping your reputation for fact checking here...

Did I say Star traveler was zotted? No, I posted the after-birthers that were zotted.

So, do you post as Non Sequitur when not at work, then use El Sordo when at work? Either way, your agenda is rather transparent. You’re merely an agitprop.

However, even the US State Department could be fooled. They even accept "Secondary Evidence of U.S. Citizenship" if you do not have a genuine birth certificate:

Secondary Evidence of U.S. Citizenship

If you cannot present primary evidence of U.S. citizenship, you must submit secondary evidence of U.S. citizenship. Determine what form of secondary evidence is most appropriate for your situation based on the descriptions below.

Early Public RecordsIf you were born in the United States and cannot present primary evidence of U.S. citizenship, submit a combination of early public records as evidence of your U.S. citizenship. Early public records must be submitted with a birth record or Letter of No Record. Early public records should show your name, date of birth, place of birth, and preferably be created within the first five years of your life. Examples of early public records are:

Early Public Records are not acceptable when presented alone.

Are these typical white people ashes? I think there was way more than Grandma Duhnam going out to sea. IMO Zero ditched all the incriminating documents, right here in plain view.

I have been to few ashes at sea memorials and after the first one, I stand way back.

You do get a lot of ashes in the can.

You'll find this interesting, Britain had two ships that regularly traveled from London to Mombasa via the Suez Canal, SS KENYA and SS UGANDA

The SS Uganda was later used as a Hospital Ship during the Falklands war

Your post #190.

On the show, the Hill Street Blues in the 1980's. A bit off the subject at hand, but good for a chuckle. Yep, they tried the name Vic Hitler on the show, some thought it Nick Hitler. I guess Hitler still ain't too funny even yet. The character only lasted four episodes.

Back to the chase, I did not draw any flak for my mild observations on the birth certificate affair. We can all agree to disagree hopefully. Those that do disagree. (chuckle).

Below is a list of shipping companies with images of timetables/sailing lists on this website. (Also companies mentioned only in the shipping in 1971 section have been included.) Basically, the website shows images of the front covers of the timetables/sailing lists. However, in addition there are often images of the interior of the timetables or of other brochures/booklets. Such images may show the actual sailing schedules (or excerpts) or exterior and interior photos/illustrations of ships used. A few words about the shipping company pages: The shipping company name in the heading of each page reflects the name of the company at the time of the publication of the newest brochure displayed. Ports of call listed for each company (or route) are those stated in the brochures. All ports were not always stated, so my listings may be incomplete. However, to keep a straight line, even if I know calls were made at more ports, I only list those mentioned in the brochures. Furthermore, ports were normally called at in reverse order on return voyages, unless otherwise stated (if known). The names of the ports/cities normally reflect the times when the brochures were published. This also goes for spelling and/or transliteration. E.g., Bombay is used instead of present-day Mumbai. English names/spelling have been used throughout with few exceptions. E.g., Naples is used instead of Napoli. curiousity has no credibility unless you are asking if he/she is a troll trying to offend.

How did Obama Sr. make his way to Hawaii since it seems such a difficult task in that day and age?

Just curious why it would be difficult for Stanley Ann, but not for Obama Sr. to travel.

“It also gives me some insights into the way crackpots think, which is something I’m interested in.”

Obviously, since that is what you are.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

curiosity’s words tell us more about HER than others.

In psychology it’s called ‘projection.’

Others are “irrational.”

Others are confined to narrow “belief” systems.

From curiosity’s home page:

“Recently I’ve become somewhat obsessed with debunking birthers. Not sure why, but I find it somewhat addictive.”

obsessed?

addictive?

Not sure why?

So the “rational” curiosity doesn’t even know why she is obsessed — addicted — to trying to debunk ‘birthers.’

Let me help:

Anything that doesn’t fit her narrow myopic view — her belief system — must be discredited.

It’s not a mystery at all why curiosity behaves the way she does.

Small, undeveloped, marginal minds behave this way.

She can’t let her little world fall apart, thus the obsession with keeping information — that may contradict her belief system — at arms length.

Sometimes it’s better to humor such people rather than try to argue with them.

The world is full of naive and clueless people.

If the two bit hustler were only conning someone on a street corner it would be amusing... but half the country?

... And those that refuse to place their trust in ANYTHING the con artist proffers — without rock solid proof — are the “irrational” ones?

Ya, right!

God help us!

Look on my Home Page.

The Black Star Line was originally established in the US by Marcus Garvey. It was a fiasco.

Nkrumah re-established the Line and named it The Black Star Line in honour of Marcus Garvey...shortly after Ghana independance in 1957 iirc.

There were fourteen cargo ships in the Line, several of which carried passengers. African-American expats in Ghana, numbering in the thousands, went to Ghana...mostly by ship.

The ships were named:

Afram River
Bia River
Birim River
Korle Lagoon
Kulpawn River
Lake Bosomtwe
Nasia River
Offin River
Oti River
Otchi River
Pra River
Sakumo Lagoon
Benya River
