* 'Terrorist' designation would lead to punitive measures

* Five Democratic senators urge Clinton to make the move (Adds more from State Department spokesman)

By Sue Pleming

WASHINGTON, May 11 (Reuters) - The U.S. State Department said on Tuesday it was looking into putting the Pakistani Taliban, the group tied to the failed car bombing in New York's Times Square, on the U.S. list of "foreign terrorist" groups.

Adding the Pakistani Taliban to the list would trigger punitive measures such as freezing assets tied to the group, barring foreign nationals with links to it from entering the United States and making it a crime to give any material help.

"It is something we are considering in light of what happened, and obviously the investigation will yield information that might give us greater clarity," State Department spokesman P.J. Crowley told reporters.

Crowley said there was a lengthy legal process before a group could be designated a "foreign terrorist organization" and he did not know when a decision would be made.

" The reason such attacks are hard to stop is rooted in the identity of the attackers. They often seem to be successful or well-educated members of society, uninvolved in any form of radicalism. "

That’s where the Taliban came from in the first place, as I recall. The Saudis radicalized Pakistani madrassahs, then when we worked with Pakistan to expell the Soviet Union, the Taliban moved into Afghanistan—from Pakistan.

I can’t believe these guys aren’t already on the terrorist list.

“I haven’t beebn(sic) paying close enough attention. I can’t believe they were not already there.”

Oviously neither has the administration.

the Pakistani Taliban, a/k/a tehreek-e-Taliban, are the group of geniuses who claimed responsibility for the attempted bombing in Times Square by Shahzad. They said the attack was intended as revenge for the death of Baitullah Mehsud and “especially” the deaths of Abu Umer al Baghdadi’s associates in Iraq, recent drone attacks against the islamofascists in tribal areas of Pakistan and Afghanistan, and the female Dr. Aafia Siddiqui who is held by the USA.

SNIPPET: ""If they have a Zionist or Israeli background...they are all mad at me," said Aafia Siddiqui, a U.S.-trained neuroscientist charged with attempted murder. "I have a feeling everyone here is them - subject to genetic testing....They should be excluded if you want to be fair," she told Manhattan Federal Judge Richard Berman." SNIPPET: "Berman ruled the jury can hear about the target list and other handwritten notes but tossed as evidence the chemicals and mass-produced documents from "how-to" terror manuals. Prosecutors also are barred from bringing up Siddiqui's alleged ties or sympathies with Al Qaeda because they would create a bias." ------ (Excerpt) Read more at nydailynews.com ...

Aafia Siddiqui was dispatched to the US by KSM to aid Majid Khan - a relative of the “Columbus cell’s” Iyman Faris, both of them linked to Uzair Parachas, the shipping container guy who met with KSM before getting caught. There were two black American jihadists involved with KSM as well, and KSM was hiding out in a safe house of someone linked to A Q Khan the “Islamic Nuclear Bomb” scientist when caught. A Q Khan was involved in the African diamond trade as was Siddiqui and a host of other interesting characters.

Let's not be too quick to condemn the Taliban without at least having Senate hearings first. /s

Yep, we don’t need to “mull” this over too much — global jihad in action.

Thank you piasa.
